Shall we examine the barriers to work? Shall we talk about the impact of covid, austerity and late stage capitalism on mental health? Shall we talk about the impact of societal hostility on minorities? What about the pitiful state of mental health research and services?? Nah, social media mate.

I am - and always will be - proud of my time as a Girlguiding ambassador. As a former Rainbow and Brownie myself, I know first hand what a difference these spaces make to girls. I've seen it in the faces of the young people I met on site visits - including trans girls, who were every bit as bright, joyful and deserving as any other child. Which is why the organisation's decision to exclude trans girls has devastated me. Some of those girls and their families have now found themselves caught in the crossfire of culture wars they never asked to be part of. I am truly heartbroken for the trans community who simply want to live their lives, be included, and have access to safe, supportive spaces. Trans girls experience the same threats as other women and girls - they are not a threat to us. They are our sisters. And so, with a very heavy heart, I will be stepping down as a Girlguiding ambassador with immediate effect. I stand with my trans sisters today and always. Inclusion makes us all stronger, and I will continue to use my voice to fight for a world where every girl - cis or trans - grows up knowing she ngs. N - Ashley x

Girl Guides of Canada has made a statement, likely in response to the cowardly decisions of Girlguiding UK. 🏳️‍⚧️

Any organisation joining the persecution of transgender people in the UK does not get a free pass.

This is going downhill fast, and it will end in a dark place.

When this is all over, there must be no "we didn't know", or "we were only followng orders".

This has to stick to them forever.

A Scottish tribunal has ruled that a trans-inclusive workplace policy is NOT discriminatory against a woman with gender critical views in the workplace.

Did I read that trans women can still be members of the WI till next April? What makes us so dreadful at the end of March? If we’re out, surely we’re out now …

It's easy for me to say this but I do think both they and the Guides should have fought this. And IANAL, but I don't think either organisation would have been in breach of the law.

(Of course, that doesn't mean SLAPP isn't expensive to fight, nor that there wouldn't have been other unpleasantness)

The first gender reassigned surgery in the UK was in 1951. She would be over 100 today and lived as a woman for 60+ years. Telling these women they are no longer welcome in the WI is brutal, as they themselves admit. These are our regressive times. #transrightsarehumanrights

Making gendered organisations legally compelled to exclude trans people is just fascism. It's cruelty for its own sake. It protects no one from anything but exposes a minority to hatred and oppression. This government is fucking disgusting.

All I can think is this what you teach the kids? That when cruel people bully you give in for an easy life? That cruelty and threats are what get your way and its wise to surrender to bigotry?

Keir boy is a barrister and the son of a toolmaker, he’s capable of drafting any necessary SI to overturn that fucking judgment within minutes and signing it himself. But he is a bigot.

I find it very strange how a legal decision which relates solely to gender recognition certificates – something under 18s definitively cannot have – is being used to justify changes to longstanding policies on including trans kids.

MP allies really should ask a PMQ on this.

It's little consolation, I know, but the Girl Guides thing is terrible optics for the GC movement. It just looks cruel and spiteful, and like rich people with an agenda bullying a well-liked organisation. Again, little succor I know.
