OMG. You just solved a mystery that's plagued me for decades. She didn't remember where she picked up that habit.

My folks loved the Flintstones, having also loved the Honeymooners. According to Mom, my grandpa couldn't understand why she/Dad/adults generally liked it or why it aired in primetime.😅

My mother liked to sing, and every birthday and wedding anniversary she'd call whoever was celebrating that day and open the convo with a song. (For some reason, she put 🎶happy anniversary🎶 to the William Tell Overture.)

It was as ridiculous as it was predictable.

I wish I could hear it again.

I've never lied about my age. Getting older is a privilege denied to many, and with everything I've been through in my life I consider every year I'm still here to be a victory.

Still, birthdays get weird and heavy.
