The Plot Against America by Philip Roth
⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed the personal aspects about Phil and his family, but found the political twist at the end unconvincing
www.goodreads.com/book/show/20... There Are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ There is so much to love about this book, but somehow it didn’t compel me. The characters were distinct and well drawn, but did I care?

The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stunning book about war and monsters, being lost and found. Told through the eyes of Freddie a Canadian soldier, and his sister Laura, a nurse. They both serve on the Western Front in WW1.

The Parlour Wife by Foluso Agbaje
⭐️⭐️⭐️ WW2 in Lagos and the coming of age of a young woman. Enjoyable.

A Voice in the Night by Simon Mason
⭐️⭐️⭐️ a good detective story, it just doesn’t feel like Oxford.

Crypt: Life, Death and Disease in the Middle Ages and Beyond by Alice Roberts
⭐️⭐️⭐️ a brilliant book, but missed the mark for me as there was not enough about individual cases.

Hard by a Great Forest by Leo Vardiashvili
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a fairy tale of a story, with Hansel and Gretel walking out of the great forest hand in hand and the end.
Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ loved the small pleasures, and this story of a story.

Cahokia Jazz by Francis Spufford
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ really enjoyed this once I got into the alternative world. But the twist at the end of each day started to wear thin.

Murder Under the Mistletoe: A Canon Clement Christmas Novella by Richard Coles
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a piece of Christmas frippery. Charming not challenging. And surprisingly non-gory for the Revd. Coles.

The First Christmas: What the Gospels Really Teach About Jesus's Birth by Marcus J. Borg
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Not as good as I remember - too much ‘Fr knows best’ attitude, with few footnotes, no references. I want to read to inform my belief, not be told what to belief

Home Is Where We Start by Susanna Crossman
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a lovely, intelligent read. Filled me with sadness as I remembered friends in the 90s & 00s in search of intentional community, and wondering what became of them. Something I once aspired to for old age
Already picked up a couple of dodgy followers: wealth management and crypto something bollocks. Need to improve my security…

22.11.2024 03:33 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0A poem by Langston Hughes titled "Tired". It reads as the following: "I am so tired of waiting, Aren't you, For the world to become good And beautiful and kind? Let us take a knife And cut the world in two -- And see what worms are eating At the rind."
I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.

I had 2 lots of keyhole surgery on my knee (1 of them) when I was 57yo. The surgeon told me it was major surgery, the physio said “glorified injections ”…
Made all the difference. My knees are now youthful. Hope yours does too.
Thanks. It’s more that I don’t want people I know irl to use SM as a shortcut to getting to know me. Or to pry.
