I'm an exceptional communications manager + writer/editor + social media manager + community manager with over a decade of experience in gaming, I would be an asset to any team... I say to myself as I kick off another week of job hunting 😩

Inverse's Gaming section is being shut down as the company "divests" from gaming content. I'm out of a job along with my wonderful co-writers. I've put my heart and soul into this job for four years. Gonna need to take time to process, but I'm now completely open for work - and boy do I need it.

I think it's a mixed bag of the CEO not seeking the advise of their marketing/comms team (who'd tell him to not comment publicly on this stuff unless it's confirming the game is human made), and the CEO and higher ups testing the waters of where they might be able to cut costs for Divinity

Divinity had a bad first trailer in my opinion, nothing about that trailer made me curious or eager to see more... but, they can still stick the landing with trailers that give people more to go on, if the game itself is good, and by not making comments that suggest the game might include gen AI 😅

It sounds like Larian might be worried about Divinity not being as strong of a title as BG3 so they're already thinking of ways to cut costs, that's the only logical reason to consider gen AI instead of tapping into the more effective marketing tactic of saying "this game will be 100% human made"

100% yeah 😩 main post was mostly venting after looking up a plot point about Maelle as I finally try out E33 and (my bad for reading Reddit/Steam forums) coming across wayyyy too many men being gross, it triggered me as someone with trauma around being preyed on by older men as a teen 😭

All fair examples, I think for me it's mostly around certain subject matter/character options, like I have no issue with Maelle as a character in E33 but I don't think giving her an unlockable swimsuit makes sense, likewise Yuffie is awesome but it's weird to make her a date option for Cloud 😅

I really wish male game devs would stop putting underage girls in games, like I'd love to not have to see male gamer bros on Reddit citing age of consent laws to justify wanting to romance Maelle in Expedition 33, or people defending Rebirth allowing Cloud to date Yuffie (Cloud is 21, Yuffie is 16)
