When I lived in Calgary it was a banh mi dream but now I live in the south end and it’s hard to find spot at all, let alone a good spot.

This process takes forever. But if you’re patient, eventually you’ll get a good deal.

I got a brand new car off the lot at more than a 25% discount doing this. Saw my entry in their CRM by accident on pickup day and he hated my guts. So many mean things to say about me but I got what I wanted.

- if they ask about trade in for your car, tell them you’re probably gifting it to someone. Your wife, nephew, who cares.

- when you get a price you like, ask for an offer letter.

NOW you can negotiate on trade in.

After than, negotiate finance rates.

- just be prepared to waste time, but stay in touch. They’re on commission, they’ll want to close eventually. Closer towards the end of the month your chances will increase.

- if they ever ask about financing or payment, tell them you haven’t decided how you’ll pay. Maybe cash.

- you can try negotiating down. Don’t expect to get what you ask for the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd time. Be prepared to say “okay I guess I’ll think about it” and ghost them for a few days.

- if you can’t get them as low as you want, take their offer to another seller as a starting negotiation.

- they might ask you to come in and talk to their manager. You’re out of town. Offer to call in a week when you’re back in town. Don’t call. Phone calls or in person negotiations are bad.

- they might offer you another price, or ask what you’d like to pay. If they offer, tell them thanks but no
