Okay I gather there is ✨️drama✨️ with the Bluesky people, and I see a lot of posts about Blacksky and Northsky. Can anyone point me to an explainer of what these are and if/how they're going to avoid similar issues?

To be fair science journalists are usually pretty good in my experience, but front-page stuff gets covered by different people. And while organisations like the Science Media Centre and Sense About Science do excellent work there's plenty more to do!

Jesse Lazear died of yellow fever Sept. 25, 1900. Along with other research by the Yellow Fever Commission, his demonstration that yellow fever is transmitted by mosquitoes provided the basis for efforts to control this devastating disease.

Philanthropies Strike a Promising Deal to Turn Back H.I.V.

This is huge: β€œA drug that provides near-perfect protection against H.I.V. with shots just twice a year will be made available at $40 per patient annually in low- and middle-income countries, offering new hope… making lenacapavir a realistic choice in countries with constrained resources.”

The even more unbelievable crime fact (which I learned relatively recently) is that burglary has fallen by more than 90% since the 1990s.

Did anyone notice? Nope. Does anyone believe it? Nope. But is is true? It is!

here she is at her burrow entrance.

Warmly recommend the Substack of @hcrichardson.bsky.social for following what is happening in US.

Each post is headed by just a date and provides a daily detailed - and not sensationalised - account and evaluation of the day's political events.

"Everyone Drank Raw Milk!" No They Didn't
YouTube video by Farm to Taber "Everyone Drank Raw Milk!" No They Didn't

When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine,"

That's... usually not the case!

In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using.

We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that?
