Ugh. This looks like they are preparing a round of cutesy tariffs on Kentucky bourbon and Wisconsin Harleys. That is too indirect and too cute. Need bigger threats.
The incoming WH is aiming a bazooka at our heads and we are going to threaten ping pong balls aimed at pinky toes.

Yes it is only rebate eligible vehicles as the story points out. Though it includes 13 trim variants of the companyβs top selling Model 3 and Model Y

A chart showing the number of battery electric-vehicle rebates issued to buyers of Tesla versus other brands. It shows Tesla has lost a lot of market share.
Tesla sold far fewer rebate-eligible vehicles than it did the year before, even as its rivals saw big gains.

Some Canadian EV buyers sour on Tesla after Elon Muskβs pivot to the right
A brand that was once cherished by the environmental left for bringing EVs to the mainstream is now far less palatable for that crowd owing to Muskβs politics
Belatedly sharing my road trip into Canada's electric vehicle rebate data, which suggest Tesla lost ground among battery EV buyers last year as Elon Musk went full-MAGA. That fits with what former and prospective Tesla owners are saying about their desire to distance themselves from the CEO.

A clever nod from Statscan, emphasis mine: "On a monthly basis, prices for traveller accommodation in Ontario were up 11.0%, the **swiftest** monthly increase ever recorded for the month of November, coinciding with a series of high-profile concerts."

working with some trade data right now and I love when the people making up the categories obviously ran out of ideas and went "uhhh just kinda throw everything else in here" which is how you end up with HS Code 8537 containing vape pens, airplane black boxes, and particle accelerator displays

Live updates: Bank of Canada expected to deliver another oversized interest-rate cut today
Financial markets and most Bay Street analysts are looking for another 50-basis-point cut, which would take the policy rate to 3.25 per cent from 3.75 per cent
"The decision, however, could be complicated by the weakness of the Canadian dollar. Another large cut would put more distance between Canadian and American interest rates, likely sending the loonie lower against the greenback and pushing up import prices."

1/ I agree with this.
Yes, blanket Trump tariffs are likely to drive up prices for consumers, hurt US manufacturers, invite retaliation and if applied in North America disrupt well established NAFTA/USMCA supply chains.
But it may not be universally obvious, and Trump will have mitigation options.

Here are three things we should *not* do.
Don't do #1: Immediately run to Washington, 'negotiate' (ie concede and capitulate), and kiss the ring.
Today's listed demands don't make sense. If we concede to these, there'll be more. That path destroys your dignity *and* is ineffective. A bad pairing.

βNot good for tax policyβ: Economists question rationale of Liberalsβ new stimulus package
Coming in at around 0.2 per cent of gross domestic product, Ottawaβs package will ripple through the economy β but itβs hardly a game-changer
Liberals in 2005: "Don't give people 25 bucks a week to blow on beer and popcorn."
Liberals in 2024: βHereβs a tax break on beer and popcorn. Also, hereβs another $250 to blow on beer and popcorn.β
