Along the same lines I find the floating toolbar items distracting. Especially in finder windows. Feels odd on macOS.

Agree 100%. It’s distracting and grabs attention away from the content which is the opposite of what they are trying to achieve. It might make sense if there is underlying content but would it still be a sidebar then?
