The thing with using Unicode characters is that they are most useful if you can set a font size. Console applications tend to be more limited in that regard. Not that it is impossible, just that it takes more work and more understanding of options.

Bitwise would be a good way. A bit advanced for a lot of beginners I think. It's a project with a lot of room for creative solutions.
