I suppose what I'd say is that "mansplaining" implies that this is behaviour that is innate somehow to every "man", there's nothing a "man" can do to change what he is, he can only change his behaviour. It's a great pejorative though and I'm not arguing that saying it might be cathartic.

Respectfully disagree, I think the behaviour is the same, patronise already implies a gender if you consider its etymology.

I wish that people would criticise the behaviour rather than the vessel carrying out the behaviour. Patronising is already a better term than mansplaining and condescending would seem to accurately describe this behaviour.

I've started going into supermarkets and deliberately messing up the self checkouts because I find the voice that says "help is on the way" very reassuring in these troubling times.
