I also have had some samples go light orange, which is not normal either.
I suspect the reagents are reacting to something in the samples. They're salt marsh porewater samples.
Hey #Science #Chemistry people, I had a weird reaction during methyl-blue photometric sulfide analysis. They started purple after reagents were added and reaction time had finished. I analyzed them, put them aside, and after maybe 10 minutes noticed they had turned fluorescent pink.

06.06.2025 10:07 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Listen up science people, if you go through the trouble of taking and reporting chemical data like ion analysis, iron concentrations, salinity, etc in your paper. STOP HIDING IT IN THE SUPPLEMENTAL AND NOT DISCUSSING IT, IT'S IMPORTANT INFORMATION. K, thanks.
06.06.2025 10:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 1Don't forget to join us in the Future of Nothern #Peatlands session, BG3.21 this morning at #EGU2025
It starts at 8:30 in N1:

The Northern Peatland session BG3.21 is in room N1 (green) and starts at 8:30 Tuesday morning! First presentation is a keynote by my Postdoc advisor Peter Müller at 8:35. The whole session will be great! Hope to see many there!

19.04.2025 18:48 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I'm officially done with my PhD! I successfully defended on March 21st, and received my degree over the weekend. Here are a few pictures from my defense, with my advisors Prof. Dr. Susanne Liebner and Prof. Dr. Gerald Jurasinski, and one with most of the #BalticTRANSCOAST 3rd cohort PhDs.

A view of the GEO1 building at the University of Münster, which houses the Institute of Landscape Ecology (ILÖK) and my new place of work. The building is grey with green bump out window accents around the lecture rooms, and has 6 floors plus a basement. Grey skies and other University buildings are visible in the background
I'm happy to announce that I started a new position at the #University of #Münster as a ( #Postdoc) #Researcher in the TRICMA2 project and have submitted my #doctoral #thesis! I know I've been quiet lately, but look forward to more field pics of porewater, this time from #Wadden #Sea salt #marshes!

I also recommend checking out the #Peatland Atlas: www.greifswaldmoor.de/peatland-atl...
One method of conservation and production is through #Paludiculture which is being tried at some test plots. Through demonstrations, they hope to show famers they can still use the land after rewetting and make money from it. You can already buy #Paludiculture products like paper and insulation.
22.09.2024 11:48 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It continues to lose 1 cm of peat per year. Rewetting and conservation efforts are very contentious as the farmers are worried about their livelihoods and don't understand. Many of them are decended from the original settlers, who were forced to be there and suffered greatly for several generations.
