As we travel the rocky path through life, experiencing the good, the bad and the indifferent, aren't we supposed to get wiser? So someone explain BREXIT, Donald TRUMP and Mother Nature biting us on the arse. At least I have Pompey to keep me sane PUP

09.07.2025 05:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A Modern Industrial Strategy In June, Labour announced its new Modern Industrial Strategy, a plan to improve business investment and create good jobs across the country. What does this mean? It means more than 7,000 British businesses β supporting up to 300,000 skilled jobs β will see their electricity bills slashed by up to 25% from 2027. This 10-year plan will create 1.1 million good, well, paid jobs in thriving industries and deliver our Plan for Change. This builds on the work weβve already done to prioritise better jobs for Britain, with around 380,000 new jobs in the UK economy since July of last year. Key talking points: A new plan to cut energy bills for 7,000 key growth businesses. An extra Β£1.2bn a year for skills programmes, with programmes aimed at digital, defence and engineering. More money and support for small and medium businesses to adopt new technologies and grow. Businesses have been calling for an industrial strategy for years, but under three successive Prime Ministers the Tories refused to deliver one, driving down investment and job creation. Labour knows that the only way to grow the economy is to give businesses the security to invest and create good jobs.
"Weβve said from day one Britain is back in business under this government, and the Β£100 billion of investment weβve secured in the past year shows our Plan for Change is already delivering for working people." Jonathan Reynolds, Business and Trade Secretary Thank you for reading the first edition of The Labour Rosette. None of the progress weβve shared here would be possible without you. Whether you have supported us for years, or have just joined us, thank you for standing with us as we begin the work of national renewal. This is just the beginning. Weβll be back next month with more updates from across Government β and more on how weβre delivering real change.

In my view Starmer has quickly become a very useful, well respected and influential world leader. It has been a long long time since the UK has had one of those.

Oh the irony.
No. I've voted Labour all my life and I expect tax rises as the demands for more and better services increase. I want to live in a country that "feels fair", that includes a fair contribution to the costs of a fair society. Why is there no tax increase to cover the increased cost of security?
