One thing I learned quickly as a young shift forecaster years ago was forecasting low temperatures was usually much harder than forecasting highs.
Case in point this AM's arctic air in the upper Midwest. Note the coldest air pooling in river valleys, urban heat islands with big differences.

A Snow Squall Warning is in effect through 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2025, for eastern Pine County, and northeast Burnett County. A brief burst of heavy snowfall will reduce visibility and make roads difficult to travel on where it passes through.
It isn't often that we get Snow Squall Warnings issued in the Northland, but that is the case this afternoon.
The biggest concern for a brief shot of heavy snowfall will be along Highway 35 around the Douglas/Burnett county line.

Snow showers continue along the southern shoreline of Lake Superior Wednesday evening, with a few isolated show showers elsewhere in the Northland. Winds remain strong with low temperatures in the teens and low 20s.

As of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the highest snowfall totals in the Northland include 23-inches in Brule, Wisconsin, 18-inches in Bessemer, Michigan, 17-inches in Drummond, Wisconsin, 15.5-inches in Blueberry, Wisconsin, 15-inches in Ashland, Wisconsin, and 14-inches in both Hurley, Wisconsin and Washburn, Wisconsin. These areas are continuing to see snowfall through the rest of Wednesday and Wednesday night.
The combination of wet snowfall and strong wind gusts have led to a number of reports of downed trees across the Northland. Some of those reports are from the Duluth area, as well as Namekagon and Northwoods Beach in Wisconsin. There was also a report of a downed tree that struck a 69-year-old man who was snowblowing on his property northwest of Two Harbors. He died from his injuries.
Wind gusts reported across the Northland just before 2 p.m. on November 26, 2025, range from 20 to 40 mph. The strongest gusts were along the Lake Superior shoreline regions, as well as interior northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. The wind direction has shifted to the northwest and north/northwest.
As forecasted, the South Shore and Upper Peninsula regions have seen the most snowfall, with more snow falling the rest of today and tonight.
Winds have been strong, with gusts of 40+ last night and Wednesday morning. They will slowly calm through Thursday.
