07.06.2025 17:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Computing education folks - can anyone suggest resources for learning Lua for 14 year olds?
My normal sources of tutorials don't have anything (e.g. @raspberrypiorg.bsky.social)!
I was asked during a Python workshop last week & would love to be able to get back to her with some advice!

Well done to the whole team for putting it all together, I was very impressed (and am definitely planning to use some of the resources with my groups too!)
Yay my new robot design is all up & running!
π€ sorted out the power issues (switched to 18650 batteries, seems to be working π€)
π€ 3D printed a connector for the grabbing servo (only took 9 revisions π€£)
All ready for April's computing club (well, this one is... 15 more robots to upgrade!)

Here's a fun way to inspire young people about computing as a subject (and perhaps careers) by answering their questions in moderated text-based live chats.

Three printed circuit boards. Top - air quality monitor breakout board. Left - round board with component holes placed as a face. Right - teacup shaped board with silver spots.
Woohoo my PCBs arrived!

Braided is a great idea! I want to have a go now... I'll make sure not to use up all my nice wire before I can get some to you Darren π
20.03.2025 08:36 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ah yeah that could work. I have some beading 'memory wire' that's taking up space in my craft drawers - it's not very thick, but could provide a proof of concept.
If you haven't got a better plan by the time I see you next, I'll bring it along.
Oo shiny!
19.03.2025 14:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You could try thick jewellery wire, bent into shape with pliers. Not sure how easy the neopixels would be to attach to it though, you might need two wires like rails haha

I was imagining my Christmas decorations, which could be secured at the bulb bits only, but the ones that come on a reel would be much more challenging!
Maybe solder strips of 5 or so instead of individual ones, so there is a bit of flexibility?
Tricky one, look forward to hearing more solutions :D
A cut up piece of old tights (skin coloured), with the string sewn or glued in place?
Or, if you can do some soldering with them and switch the string out for individual pixels, I have some stiff but bendable wire I could give you!
One of my @codeclub.bsky.social students wants to make a bracelet/armband using a string of neopixels, so that they spiral between the wrist & elbow.
I'm after ideas for what they can use as a framework to support the pixels to stay in place, please π

I'm very happy with how this year's Computing Club Project is going!
Code is working π€ so I'm finalising the CAD workshop.
Waiting for v2 of my PCB so I can transfer the measurements to TinkerCAD for the young people to create their own.
Excited to see what creative designs they come up with π

Making the most of my day off by baking matcha cookies to enjoy while I do my Japanese homework!
It's my third time attempting matcha cookies, two different recipes, always bland π (though I doubled the matcha!). They look pretty though ππ΅
