Hastings in 28mm : the end of the battle - or perhaps the end of the first act.

Still, it felt like the end of the first act rather than the end of the battle.

@mogsymakes.bsky.social @michaelharker.bsky.social Had a nice game of #Midgard, to celebrate the 958th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. The Saxons repelled the Norman knights' somewhat haphazard attacks, and a counter attack at the end of the game drove them off almost completely.

I've stood in that spot! Wonderful sight!

Whereas the Post office told me twice that my parcel was arriving between 10:29 and 14:29 and shockingly it arrived at 8:10.

We had a good number of people saying "I'm looking forward to these rules..." so it was good to be able to give a very positive reply.

A notable feature of both games was that - as per history - Aki the Tall was cut down by Eystien Snorri. And unlike history, Harald Hardrada met his end on both occasions.

We had a couple of games at Carronade today - 28mm Battle of Fulford. @michaelharker.bsky.social may be along later with pictures. A very subtle set of rules, with clever interactions. Wish I could be at Partisan to see how it should be played!

Actually, I do get the links idea, I just don't think it's straight forward. My initial thoughts were a result of someone thinking it's a no-brainier. Its not.

For what it's worth I saw nothing about the new law before today: if someone else brings it up, hardly surprising that I comment on it.

I don't care how people who haven't lived in the UK for 15 years or more are likely to vote, I care that a potentially large number of people with no real stake in the country might decide the nature of the government without facing the results of that vote.

So long as you pay UK tax on that.

Yes, but what's your stake In the country? Do you pay taxes in the UK? Do you intend to return?
I'm genuinely interested, as frankly, I'd rather have people who live in the UK voting for the government (and yes, that includes non-UK citizens resident in the UK).

I'm going to ask, if you haven't lived in the country for 15 years, what's your stake in voting for the government of a place you probably won't come back to, and you're almost certainly not paying taxes in? No representation without taxation (if you earn enough).

It's bleak. The spring rolls have run out. The noodles are cold.

3 cavalry? I meant six, and they are single ranked, of course. The extra depth means I can stagger them if needed.

I still use 20mm frontage when I can, even for cavalry. My Midgard bases are 120mm by 60mm and have 12 foot or three cavalry in 2 ranks.

Through the Dardanelles? The Turks allowed that?

Can you recommend a good book on the planning and execution of the German invasion? I'm particularly interested in whether the Germans made the decision to invade on the basis of what they new about British plans?
