Hello from #ASA25! So excited to have so many lovely sociologists in my city! Welcome π€
09.08.2025 20:41 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I know I'm a few days late here, but is it possible that going up on the roof is the best thing 47 has done in his second term?
07.08.2025 20:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is one of the key reasons that democrat centrists trying to pivot away from identity politics (as if that were somehow an option) is so dangerous.
05.08.2025 17:39 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Who's the fifth sociologist?! It's not me! I'm happy for other people to have their genders, especially if it makes their buttfucking hotter!
03.08.2025 22:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That's messed up! The fetishization of 'new theory', as if that's the only way to increase/improve knowledge about the social world, is really one of our disciplines hottest takes.
03.08.2025 13:32 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So many studies use intelligence as an outcome, but where is the research about how to improve wisdom at the population level?!
03.08.2025 04:25 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But but I _am_ a sociology professor

- Jinkx Monsoon
Preach, can I please get some size 11s of cute shoes!?
This is amazing! Yay for the river Test. I wonder what they'd like for their birthday π?
01.08.2025 17:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Maybe it's another paper, but I wonder about where participants felt like they could reliably go for support and validation during their transition, and/or how they selected/developed/found practices that led to euphoria. (I saw the _reasons_ folks chose particular practices often very clearly)
31.07.2025 14:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It was really lovely reading it! I appreciated how you talked to folks from around the world and centered how clearly participants saw race and gender and fatness together.
I also related to the stories of being uncomfortable claiming transness as a non binary person.
As Matt suggests, this probably just reflects differences in co-authorship practice across disciplines. Those y-axes are really misleading too: this is measuring production per PI, but most of my Sociology colleagues feel lucky if they can hire a single RA, let alone a lab.
31.07.2025 00:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ooh, excited to read this! Thanks for writing it!
31.07.2025 00:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I was just in Spokane this weekend, and it is beautiful there. I also ate really excellent frybread (from Indigenous Eats).
Oh, and there's a sociology job there at Gonzaga!
Yes! So grateful for my collaborators who make sure our qual methods are tight! It's hard, but it's where my mixed-methods projects make their best insights!
30.07.2025 23:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Given what we know people associate crime with, this misperception is part of a bundle of perceptual errors which serve to naturalize racism (and probably transphobia).
30.07.2025 21:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What a cool opportunity!!
29.07.2025 12:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So many folks putting sociology classes in their responses here (mine was probably symbolic logic or ceramics)! It makes me feel great, but then I wonder why those folks didn't major in sociology?
29.07.2025 12:33 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Realizing that this might have been how I got most of my dates (and maybe also most of my punches?)
29.07.2025 12:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This looks awesome and I'm excited to read it (always ready to see sociology of memes grow!).
Also, I'm white and love ketchup (and mayonnaise), so I figure there might be some good introspection opportunities ~
Actually there are! They are smaller than I remember them, but the altitude helps I think.
Still, it's a very palpable experience of global warming for sure.

Spent a few nights at this lake in the southern part of Glacier National Park as a break from the academic.
I'm back at work now and part of me wants to have stayed.
Racism against white people is not and has never been a thing.
Zero white people are oppressed because they are white.
Unlike ALL other races, white people encounter zero race-based obstacles.
Further, every white person enjoys automatic, unearned benefitsβbecause they are white; no other reason.

Three early teens walking together, one says "Can we teach Jalen how to walk? Look at his walk! Why does he walk like an NPC?!?"
And now I'm worried that I probably walk like an NPC, whatever that means.

27.07.2025 17:33 β π 28412 π 4808 π¬ 842 π 694Absolutely, I feel like there are too many things to see now, and we don't know what will go on to be important!
19.07.2025 17:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Throwback bike grocery trip: pausing on my way home in 2018. I got ortliebs in 2019 so now I can carry even more! #bikegroceries #bikecommute
19.07.2025 03:13 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh I hope you're right!
It is fun to be studying this stuff right now though!
