Hungary has closed a passenger railway to build a battery factory

The Debrecen – Nagykereki line used to continue as #CrossBorderRail to Oradea, although the border section is long gone

Here's a pic at Nagykereki I took this summer!

Also this is not a good outcome for the Kent stations (Ebbsfleet, Ashford) as Virgin is not keen on those

It's not good for prospects to run London to Germany and Switzerland (as Virgin's trains will not have 15kV)

the finest dining I've indulged in outside of a heratige train was having multiple meal deals.

and that train started in Aberdeen and ended in penzance.

North Devon's urbanised coast has a population of over 125000 people. Bideford-Barnstaple-Braunton has a population of 90000 plus. And that's before factoring in the huge tourist surges through summer.

Its road network cannot and will never cope.

Not a hope in hell Branson runs a Manchester-Paris

The new Alstom trains for the Tunnel Virgin plans to order are continental European loading gauge, not UK, so can’t run anywhere beyond HS1 in the UK

So forget it

The Telegraph has been shitposting HS2 twice/thrice-weekly for almost a decade, and have been absolutely instrumental in getting so much of this critical infrastructure axed. Now they’re complaining it’s not going to be as useful, and noticing we’ll still have the issues it was set to solve.

Branson’s Virgin plots Manchester-Paris route to challenge Eurostar Operator considers new direct services as it bids to secure Channel Tunnel access

β€œTrains would need to run via the crowded West Coast Main Line…”

The WCML is crowded is it?

We should build a bypass taking some intercity trains off that crowded line so it’s less crowded.

Why aren’t we doing that The Telegraph. πŸ™ƒ

This autumn the UK Office for Rail and Road will decide on capacity at Temple Mills depot in east London

What that is going to mean for Eurostar's rivals - and the many questions I still have! - I've written up in a new blog post

The claim that "Pacers saved rural railway lines" seems not to have fully died a death yet. It's completely ahistoric on several fronts:

1. Pacers were never deployed on rural railway lines.
2. They cost more to buy and operate than Sprinters.
3. Several lines were closed during their tenure.

Saving lives, saving you money, improving the flow of traffic, there’s no downside to switching to 20mph default limit.

Latest waiting times for gender identity clinics in the UK Revealed waiting times of all GICs in UK: Most Trans+ people in the UK will wait more than a third of their adult life to get an appointment, and some will never receive care

This amazing article from @vic-parsons.bsky.social via @wearequeeraf.com shows the absolute criminal state of trans healthcare in the UK.

Scotland has a 224 year wait for a first appointment. Yes, you read that right.

this government's record on railways is awful the south-west is on its knees, midland electrification cancelled, Ely junction cancelled, hs2 remains knee capped.

Let's call a spade a spade.

A "flying electric taxi" is essentially a private jet.

The last thing we need more of - electric or not.

Flying is hugely energy intensive.

Let's get East West Rail built and trains running asap instead.

building the high-speed network to standard gauge, prepared for standard gauge conversion or some dual gauging on a case by case basis is fine but re-gauging the entire networks of these countries rather than.
investing in idk electrification, cross gauge freight, more frequent local services is mad.

Spending a decade watching a dedicated high speed railway between several of the UK's largest cities get repeatedly downgraded to what can now be described as an "electrified link" (currently being delivered on the existing line and delayed since the early 1990s) is radicalising.
