New York state law mandates that 70% of the states electricity must be generated from renewable resources by 2030. There's a long way to go but it looks like New York is moving in the wrong direction when it comes to reducing emissions and transitioning to renewable energy

There might have been a slight increase in solar bit it's still negligible. Real-time NYISO data shows that renewables currently account for less than 20% of the states energy production, with solar power accounting for less than 2%.

Autopsy of a Perfect Policy Failure: The Closure of Indian Point - FREOPP The decision to shutter Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant has profoundly altered New York’s energy landscape, significantly increasing the state’s reliance on natural gas and affecting electricity cost...

The increase in use of natural gas/oil is largely due to the closure of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in 2021. There wasn't enough power from renewable sources to cover the gap created by shutting down Indian Point, so NY increased reliance on fossil fuels to cover the gap

It seems like a major policy failure that after passing the CLCPA in 2019 (which set a goal of reducing GHG emissions 40% by 2030 & 85% by 2050) NYS has increased its reliance on natural gas and oil while seemingly decreasing reliance on nuclear, hydro and wind power.

In 2015 a majority of New York’s energy came from:
- Natural Gas 38%
- Nuclear 32%
- Hydro 22%

In 2025 a majority of New York’s energy is coming from:
- Duel Fuel (nat gas & oil) 40%
- Natural Gas 25% (total fossil fuel ~65%)
- Nuclear 14%
- Hydro 17%

While red states are trying to reclassify natural gas as a green fuel source, blue states like New York have increased use of natural gas while decreasing use of renewables and carbon-free energy despite having passed laws that say the state should be transitioning to renewables.

Natural gas is not a source of green energy but fossil fuel funded misinformation campaigns try to make people think otherwise. Burning natural gas releases methane which is a greenhouse gas that traps 80x more heat than CO2 over two decades.

Republicans are trying to force through a rescissions package to cancel $9.4 Billion in congressionally approved funding. If passed it would help make DOGE cuts permanent and cut federal funding for public broadcasting and foreign aid even though a majority of voters oppose that.

Supreme Court Clears the Way for Trump’s Cuts to the Education Department

Recent polling from @dataforprogress.org shows that Andrew Cuomo has a -20 net favorability rating

Zohran’s met favorability is +9 β€” which is higher than the Democratic Parties favorability rating

Eric Adams favorability rating is a dismal -41, but among Republicans its +22

Historically the IRS has kept tax info for undocumented immigrants confidential but that's changing now that the agency is sharing data with ICE. The Yale Budget Lab estimates that the rule change could result in a loss of $25 billion in tax revenue next year.

ICE is asserting the authority to stop and frisk anyone in the country β€œbased on their physical appearance.”

Stop and frisk policies have been found to be unconstitutional for violating the 4th Amendments right to privacy and the 14th Amendments protections against racial discrimination.

Writer @peterbeinart.bsky.social says Zohran Mamdani's win in the Democratic primary for New York mayor, despite sustained attacks over his pro-Palestinian views, shows how dramatically opinion has shifted within the party on Israel. "It's happening in New York and across the country," says Beinart.

Philly is in its first municipal strike in the social media age. Does that affect how events are unfolding? So far, the national press has largely ignored Philadelphia's first strike by city workers since 1986.

It’s honestly so disrespectful and irresponsible that the national media has mostly ignored the DC33 city worker strike in Philly so far. It’s a huge story with massive implications for the 6th biggest city in the country.

Hell, I’ll write about it for ya! Email me! www.inquirer.com/politics/phi...

I agree with this. Unchecked corporate power is a much bigger threat to the average American than undocumented immigrants.

Undocumented immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than US citizens and pay nearly $100 Billion in taxes annually, which is more than most corporations pay.

Trump’s mass deportation campaign has locked up at least 56,000 people in ICE detention & set arrest quotas at 3,000 per day. The budget he just signed allocates an additional $45 for ICE detention centers β€” so expect to see more people locked up even though 65% of detainees have no criminal record.

Mamdani Shocks the World on a Hot Primary Day New York City’s mayoral election provides a big surprise, with voters choosing Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani over former governor and sex pest Andrew Cuomo.

Zohran Mamdani just stunned the Democratic machine. Despite Cuomo’s millions and endorsements from Bill Clinton & Rep. Clyburn, voters picked people power over power players. From @whitneycwimbish.bsky.social:

Trump’s illegal airstrike on Iranian nuclear facilities was a total policy failure. Unless the goal was to make it more likely that Iran kicks out IAEA and starts working to build nuclear weapons, which the U.S. can use as an excuse for a larger war in the future.
