There might have been a slight increase in solar bit it's still negligible. Real-time NYISO data shows that renewables currently account for less than 20% of the states energy production, with solar power accounting for less than 2%.

The increase in use of natural gas/oil is largely due to the closure of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in 2021. There wasn't enough power from renewable sources to cover the gap created by shutting down Indian Point, so NY increased reliance on fossil fuels to cover the gap

It seems like a major policy failure that after passing the CLCPA in 2019 (which set a goal of reducing GHG emissions 40% by 2030 & 85% by 2050) NYS has increased its reliance on natural gas and oil while seemingly decreasing reliance on nuclear, hydro and wind power.

In 2015 a majority of New York’s energy came from:
- Natural Gas 38%
- Nuclear 32%
- Hydro 22%

In 2025 a majority of New York’s energy is coming from:
- Duel Fuel (nat gas & oil) 40%
- Natural Gas 25% (total fossil fuel ~65%)
- Nuclear 14%
- Hydro 17%

While red states are trying to reclassify natural gas as a green fuel source, blue states like New York have increased use of natural gas while decreasing use of renewables and carbon-free energy despite having passed laws that say the state should be transitioning to renewables.

Natural gas is not a source of green energy but fossil fuel funded misinformation campaigns try to make people think otherwise. Burning natural gas releases methane which is a greenhouse gas that traps 80x more heat than CO2 over two decades.

Republicans are trying to force through a rescissions package to cancel $9.4 Billion in congressionally approved funding. If passed it would help make DOGE cuts permanent and cut federal funding for public broadcasting and foreign aid even though a majority of voters oppose that.

Historically the IRS has kept tax info for undocumented immigrants confidential but that's changing now that the agency is sharing data with ICE. The Yale Budget Lab estimates that the rule change could result in a loss of $25 billion in tax revenue next year.
