Uni students furious at 'shameful' plans to cut support service staff The University of Wollongong is considering redundancies at a well-regarded support service for victim-survivors of sexual assault.

UoW should be doing everything they can to ensure the safety of staff and students on campus. It is a core responsibility of a uni.

They should be investing more in services to ensure a safe campus and they should guarantee roles for the SARC staff, who do such important and challenging work.

Announced by us yesterday, and confirmed today thanks to the work of Senator @mehreenfaruqi.bsky.social, Monash will end its partnership with #WoodsideEnergy.

Now is the time for Monash to also reverse their decision to close their sustainability institute and renew their commitment to real climate action.

No university should be in bed with dirty industries destroying the climate or profiteering from war. The Greens will keep pushing to end these partnerships.

Our universities should be places that advance the public good, not help morally bankrupt companies like Woodside greenwash their climate crimes.

Other universities should be on notice: their staff, students, and communities won’t tolerate them cozying up to these companies.

Earlier this week, Senator @mehreenfaruqi.bsky.social introduced a bill to the Senate that’d force universities to divest from fossil fuels, weapons, and gambling.

This is what some of us who have been campaigning on this issue think at Monash, UQ, and UniMelb.

Universities have shamefully failed to heed the calls of the courageous staff and students who have long been calling for weapons-free and fossil-free campuses.

Dirty money should stay out of universities. I urge the major parties to support this important bill.

There can be no justification for universities investing in weapons manufacturers whose killing machines are enabling Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Our universities should not be helping fossil fuel companies greenwash their climate crimes and environmental destruction.

The rules are so lax that we don’t even know the full extent of these dirty partnerships, which is deeply concerning given the governance issues rife in the sector.

Universities across the country receive millions of dollars from major arms manufacturers like Lockheed Martin and Thales, who are profiteering from genocide.

Our End Dirty Uni Partnerships Bill makes sure universities have to disclose and divest from dirty industries like weapons, gambling and fossil fuels.

There is no place for these industries in our universities.

The audacity of ANU investing in weapons companies even under heavy scrutiny from staff and students shows their hand will have to be forced. Universities will not act on their own.

Universities should be fully funded to be places of democracy, equity and public good, not places that help dirty industries profit from human misery.

Having these links to dirty industries betrays this core purpose and the mission of academia.

Today our End Dirty Uni Partnerships Bill will be debated in the Senate.

The bill comes at a pertinent time—climate crisis escalates, fossil fuel companies record mammoth profits, and weapons manufacturers pocket billions while people are slaughtered in their thousands by their war machines.

Here’s to bringing that same grassroots power into every corner of our own communities. The future belongs to movements like this.

Zohran and this moment shows us that another kind of politics is possible: one that’s grounded in justice, led by those most affected, and fuelled by hope.

The lesson is clear — change doesn’t trickle down. It never has. It’s built from the ground up.

For those of us in this country, it’s a powerful reminder that the same energy, solidarity, and belief in collective action can reshape politics here too — so we can actually tackle the housing crisis, deepening inequality, the climate crisis, and the rise of racism and the far right.

It’s proof that when people come together with courage and clarity, they can transform not just campaigns but the entire political conversation and landscape.

This win didn’t come from corporate donations or political insiders.

It came from neighbours knocking on doors, countless calls, a campaign trail that included stops at the taxi rank AND the club, and communities standing up for one another.

Zohran's victory is a testament to what’s possible when communities organise from the ground up and refuse to accept the status quo.

A brown, Muslim man representing working class New Yorkers and fighting unapologetically for housing, healthcare, and justice, just became the mayor of New York.

Let us end this carnival of cruelty, rehabilitate and rehome the horses, and stop the corrosive influence of gambling donations on our politics by banning them outright.

Both the Liberals and Labor receive political donations from gambling companies, losses that are ripped from vulnerable communities.

The Melbourne Cup spectacle comes at a deadly cost to both animals and communities.

Today, federal parliamentarians will be toasting to this cruelty, lunching in the Speaker’s Courtyard while more and more horses suffer horrific deaths to feed the gambling industry’s profits.

It is time to stop treating animals as disposable commodities.

Horse racing is not a sport, it is legalised cruelty for profit. The industry not only sacrifices horses, it goes to great lengths to hide its cruel and disgusting underbelly.

Things keep going from bad to worse for horses in the racing industry yet the media, politicians and their mates in toxic gambling companies continue to pretend everything is okay. This is a stain on our nation.
