I just realized my new students are about to see my name on their schedule as their science teacher and I find that so precious. We’re about to meet!!! I wish we had a million more months of summer but I’m also already grateful for them. And they better not be little gremlins.

A legal permanent resident researching cures for Lyme disease has been detained by immigration officials for over a week.

He has reportedly been denied access to an attorney and his family has not been given a reason for his detention.

We cannot become immune to this cruelty.

This was really wild because writing this article (which explained how female lions are in charge of the pride) really revealed to me how common it is for men to make male lions their entire personality and definition of manhood.

I was dogpiled, brigaded, and attacked for WEEKS.

Scientists Say New Government Climate Report Twists Their Work A new Department of Energy report β€œfundamentally misrepresents” climate research and leaves out key context, multiple scientists cited in the report tell WIRED.

NEW: i spoke to nine (!) scientists across several disciplines whose work was cited in the new Department of Energy report that downplays the severity of climate change. all of them say their work was misrepresented, cherry picked, and/or lacked context β€”

hostages held by Hamas, irerusalem, January zz, 2024. (PMO
Spokesperson)
What was the atmosphere like?
"We left the meeting very disappointed because Netanyahu talked about dismantling
Hamas as the goal of the war. He didn't promise anything regarding the demand to return the hostages. He merely said a military operation in Gaza was needed to serve as leverage for the hostages' release.
HIGHLIGHTED SECTION:
"We later found out that Hamas had offered on October 9 or 10 to release all the civilian hostages in exchange for the IDF not entering the Strip, but the government rejected the offer."

A tweet from NYTimes Communications (@NYTimesPR) reads:
"We have appended an Editors' Note to a story about Mohammed Zakaria al-Mutawaq, a child in Gaza who was diagnosed with severe malnutrition. After publication, The Times learned that he also had pre-existing health problems. Read more below."

Below the tweet is an image with text on a dark blue background. The text states:
β€œChildren in Gaza are malnourished and starving, as New York Times reporters and others have documented. We recently ran a story about Gaza’s most vulnerable civilians, including Mohammed Zakaria al-Mutawaq, who is about 18 months old and suffers from severe malnutrition. We have since learned new information, including from the hospital that treated him and his medical records, and have updated our story to add context about his pre-existing health problems. This additional detail gives readers a greater understanding of his situation. Our reporters and photographers continue to report from Gaza, bravely, sensitively, and at personal risk, so that readers can see firsthand the consequences of the war.”

Genocide from starvation apparently doesn't count if there was a preexisting condition according to the New York Times.

It’s really weird that Congress decided not to treat this as a constitutional crisis. The chief executive is constitutionally obligated to execute the laws that Congress passes.

Trump has just decided he doesn’t have to do thatβ€”and Congress hasn’t done anything. Now, we’re post-constitutional.

84.

He would be my uncle. Not great-great or great uncle. One of my parents' siblings. This is why we remember.

All famines are man-made, all famines are political. Historians of empire and humanitarianism have known this forever. Gaza is not starving, Gaza is being starved, by Israel, and this starvation is enabled by our government and by every other government that does not step in to force food and aid.
