For the life of me I cannot figure out why the stereotype of cold stern Russian mothers who never hug their children hangs onto the American imagination, because that's kinda just how ideal aristocratic parenting was in the West until after the 1940s.

But as much as I enjoy writing it, I often do not enjoy reading it because at its worst it feels like another episode of a tv show where nothing important is allowed to change or matter

No lie, it is one of my biggest challenges as a novelist because I *love* people walking around talking to other characters and slowly coming to an emotional resolution, and I also love circling plots that loop around a fixed event like hawks on a thermal vent trying to reach open wind

I'm thinking here of some pieces I've read about time travel or grief or samsara, it can be incredibly effective in visual media, it can work really well as a theme but for some reason it often flounders as a spec novel

This plot structure is one of the things I think of as a hallmark of fanfiction as a genre; this specific experience is often delivered to perfection in fanfiction, but becomes weird in a novel with an original setting that isn't specifically and intentionally about that structure

It is INCREDIBLY bad news, I don't really know what I'll do if they don't reverse these bans.

If you're not okay with people primarily only asking you for things that are difficult or annoying or out of your control AND criticising how you are addressing a problem, genuinely, do not be a community moderator of a non-homogeneous space

I'm furious, btw, the suspension is bullshit. One cannot moderate based 100% on "bad vibes" without taking into consideration the social context of the posters. Moderation is a bullshit hard horrible job and if you're thin skinned it's not the job for you.
