being a corporate litigator has really taught me perspective about political science — states and governments are artificial persons just like corporations, and the class foibles of corporate d&os are very similar to those of the class of elected officials.

This thread (and the multiple quotes) remind me of something: it is a lot harder to build something than it is to break it down.

There is no “Democratic Stephen Miller” because turning off a hundred switches takes one person, but turning on one hundred programs is going to take thousands.

Admitting you’ve been conned is something we humans find incredibly difficult. The shame of “I’ve been a sucker. I AM a sucker” is more than we can bear and we’ll grasp at anything, absolutely anything, no matter how absurd or implausible, to avoid accepting that, even when it’s undeniable.

This is like the “You’re now paying only $1.98 for gas” lie told to a public that is all paying way more than that every time they fill up their tank. Everybody’s experience disproves this. We’re not seeing any savings, let alone getting paid when we pick up our prescriptions.
