If I had a book out I'd plug it here. But I don't. So I won't. (but I would if I did) TA | Accidental Art Teacher | Trust T&L Lead | Research Lead | ELE | Art Historian in Training

Bert has never been a cable chewing rabbit in all of his 12 years. Despite this, we've always been careful.

Not careful enough, it seems. Bert is now a cable chewer.

Had session 2 with my new cohort of trust Specialist Practitioners today. Covered leading learning and evidence-informed practice (including where to find evidence and a bit like of books and journals). They didn't eat the cookies I brought to S1, but Skittles went down well today.

So LONG! I'm either going to have to watch it again or dig out my DVD of The Slipper and The Rose 😁

Big fan of degrees for fun now - feels so much different to doing it for a job. Even with the panicky assignment weeks and only half way through year 1, I'm kinda already worrying about what to do when I finish 😁

(can confirm ChatGPT is useful for unpicking unintelligible academia)

It's quite magical. I *love* the upstairs downstairs this time round.

Today we reached the point of the year where, with the smack of realisation that the end of Yr11 is in sight, one of my boys coloured himself in with chalk pastels. There's one every year.

Another boy embraced assemblage. Lots of rusty metal and marginally less messy than chalk boy.

Looking forward to this with the Barrow heads ⬇️

There's something about the pattern of managing workload in order to add more workload that I'm already seeing. The people who use it get stuff done, so it's seen as doable and maybe our benchmark should be how long it takes someone capable to do it without & just not add more (or shorten deadlines)

It's one of my concerns with AI too. Running at 80% (so you can push and slack) is seen as lazy. AI seen as the magic answer to workload but if it's an expectation, more will be added. Going to be like when they built leisure centres everywhere expecting national 4-day weeks due to tech.

Reminded of the time that a BBC World Service presenter asked their guest how long there had been a Latino presence in Los Angeles and I yelled at my car stereo, β€œThe name of the city is **LOS ANGELES**!”

I saw a safeguarding lead at Bett as part of a panel and she said a couple of times, most of the companies there will likely need to go back into development and those are the questions to ask. Our trust announced Copilot only last week and the grumbling was clear with lots of 'what about..?'.

Really useful set of questions to ask when exploring the introduction of any product with integrated Gen AI in schools. Worth sharing with your wider teams too as teachers are getting used to using different tools and push back to restrictions is easier to manage when everyone knows why.

The uncomfortable reality is that very few generative AI products currently being promoted to schools are likely to meet this bar- certainly not without significant redesign.

Particularly for student facing Gen AI. Exploring the implications of the DfE’s recent Gen AI products safety guidance…

It's helpful if it's pointing out the cohort are vastly different to previous (say, pandemic impact), or if it's linked to other factors and might be a strategy to think of (say, SES), or a possible cause of other issues (say, SEMH label). High numbers doesn't mean we ignore, just react differently.
