How do you know they don’t understand it? Like I said, every protest I’ve been to has had a focus on voting and passing legislation. Every single one.

We know too many people stayed home or voted 3rd party. So what’s your suggestion? Don’t protest. Assume protests and voter registration efforts are useless? I don’t understand what you think should happen. The protests are efforts to create awareness and get non-voters and new voters engaged.

Why are we assuming that the voter registration efforts aren’t there? The images on social and on tv are of crowds, but they don’t show the actual activities. There is a lot happening at these events - at least at the Ohio events I’ve attended.

Every event I’ve attended has had voter registration, petitions to get legislation on the ballot, and opportunities to volunteer with local organizations.

We have to allow for redemption. What if someone didn’t vote, regrets it, and is now trying to step up and do their part. I hate the idea of anyone not voting, but if there is an opportunity to get them to the polls in the next election and protesting helps get them there, that’s a good thing.

But why are you assuming that the protests are made up of non-voters. Or maybe they are waking up and will vote next time because of the protest. It’s too late to vote in 2024, but the work at the protest is getting people out for upcoming elections. That’s all we can do.

I don’t agree at all. Harris got over 70 million votes. The protests are representing only about 11,000,000 people. Most attending are voters and active volunteers already. But what’s your alternative? What are you doing to move the needle? It’s not enough to say we voted, we have to be out there.

I’ve been to 4 protests. Every event has voter registration, petitions to get SB1 on the ballot in Ohio, and organizations where you can sign up to work at events on legislation and/or voter registration. People are signing up to volunteer and get involved. The protests are helping with that.

Yes. And these protests do have an impact. We can complain that people don’t vote or we can “contend” with it, and these protests are one way to do that. Not the “only” way, but “one” way. What do you suggest as an alternative to them?

If we showed up the at the polls the way we show up at Marches, Harris would have only had about 11,000,000 votes. The voter registration and work on local legislation that is happening at these events in not seen in the images of crowds. But I’ve seen it happening at every event.

People can’t cast a vote every day. But these events create awareness and invite people to get active and encourage people to vote. We have a big issue we are trying to get on the ballot in Ohio and signatures get collected at these events. Education about the bill happens at these events.

When we see these protests and marches on television or see images shared on social media, we see a big crowd and a lot of signs, but we don’t see all of the activities happening at them. So it’s easy to write them off as just a march or silly. But from what I’ve seen, they are Democracy in action.

Democracy can be both, can’t it? I’ve been to 4 of these protests and I’ve met a lot of people at them. Everyone I’ve met so far voted for Harris. Many also campaigned for her. Every protest has had voter registration tables and in Ohio, petitions to get SB1 on the ballot. Isn’t that Democracy?

This is in Ohio anyway. Not sure what is available to foster youth in other states. But I feel for the students who are in legal guardianships and still facing the world alone. Can you include those students in this legislation?

I wish you’d do more for the independent students who were never placed in foster care. They can’t access Bridges, ETV, and College Bound. Foster youth can access those grants and be fully funded at a 4 year school. Kids in legal guardianships have no access to those funds and can’t afford college.
