Should people strive to emulate actual play performances?

I say "performance" simply because many people on these shows refer to themselves as "AP performers". Some say they look to that AP playstyle as the goal to reach, while others say that style is unrealistic.

It's not just a D&D thing, as much as some people really want to think. Building the mechanically optimal character happens in many different games. But is it bad? Does it disrupt the game? Does it diminish RP? Does it enhance the fun?

I've only been to a few, held at local colleges. I've never hit the big ones like Gen Con or any of the Pax, though I've wanted to. If you have been, how was your experience? Was it worth the cost, be it time, health, or money?

Maybe you're lucky & haven't encountered any toxicity. In that instance, I envy you. For most others, we've encountered unpleasant traits & behavior. From bigotry in all it's forms to simple gatekeeping.

Do you prefer to play in a published setting or a homebrew one?

Most the games I see run are homebrew, especially in the D&D variants. I seldom see a Forgotten Realms or Eberron. But at the same time as I say that, some games seem to only get run in the standard setting.

I was just thinking about this earlier & I'm not sure which one I would probably pick. Too short & I feel like no progress is made. But I also don't do well with long gaps between playing.

I took some days off for my birthday & over the course of those days I got to discussing burnout. A good friend of mine was saying that they could see it coming & they might need a break. How do you handle burnout? What even is it?

I always think about how a character would get by if they weren't swept up in the circumstances that is the story. What skills do they have to make a living or even just survive?

This can be any number of things. Maybe you wish they'd roleplay more & really get into character. Or maybe you would love for them to remember what's on their sheet. Maybe you'd prefer them simply to be more punctual.

It seems to be brutally agreed on that GMs are hard to come by. That the ratio is people who play to the people who run games is very uneven. How many people do you regularly play with & how many of them have also have GM'd a game?

Most characters usually have some kind of residence they call home. Maybe it's a ramshackle hut or maybe a whole castle? Or perhaps they live in tiny neon-lit apartment or aboard some aging space station. What does their home look like?

I was thinking about campaigns that culminates in taking down the main villain & what form that might take. Does your character kill them? Imprison them? How is the organization shut down? Is the apocalypse delayed or stopped?

We all get annoyed by certain things in life & this goes for our hobby as well. Maybe it gets under your skin when a player shows up late, or maybe you can't stand people hogging the spotlight. Perhaps rules lawyering really frustrates you.

Everyone has a particular set of skills, some of which can help the overall gaming experience. Some people have great imaginations, others have in-depth knowledge of the rules, & others are good at supporting the other players.

Everyone starts somewhere. Often the first adventure is fairly mundane, such as handling a group of bandits for the village or maybe breaking into a warehouse to steal the tech for someone. GMs, what did your players tackle first?

I wasn't sure what to call it, but that term seemed the best. By "angry roller" I'm talking about someone who gets excessively frustrated when the dice don't produce the desired result. If you have encountered this, what did you do?

By this I mean a character who has to be heavily convinced in one way or another to embark on whatever the adventure is. A sort of character that often states something to the effect of " why should I go with you to do that".
