I wrote about the ascendance of Bari Weiss from a hack columnist to media royalty, and what it means for the future of CBS News.

There's a certain amount of deference shown to the Commander in Chief, in terms of public appearances with the military. But Trump constantly abuses it, and the military needs to put its foot down or it will start being seen as a partisan institution.

This military should not be serving as a backdrop to this kind of speech.

They're not. The only possibilities are Trump makes things worse with Democratic approval or Trump makes things worse despite Democratic resistance. Don't bail him out.

The White House is blatantly violating the Constitution, ignoring Congressionally-allocated spending. Approving any budget would put a stamp of approval on the end of checks and balances.

It'll hurt, yes, but it's time for opposition. The political costs will mostly fall on the people in charge.

There is no benefit to stopping the shutdown. None. GOP and Trump won't stick to any deals made and this is the only lever you have right now. And they will double down and double fuck Dems if they do cave. Don't blink. They own the exec and both house and senate. Let them sort it out.

Anyone not exposed to right wing media and Facebook and Twitter algorithms will look at this and see how crazy it is but I think people really underestimate just how far right online propaganda really is and how easy it is for anyone to get here.
