I feel like that kind of extra robustness would be something I’d pay a premium for - especially if my recoup plan or business plan was in the 10+ year zone for a large operation.

They are in the (undemocratic) process of dismantling their regulatory bodies that cover food, the environment, education, social systems… and they wonder why we don’t want to sell their dairy in Canada? There’s no oversight anymore. They are not trustworthy. They downgraded their value to us.

Reason #2 why the USA's 51st state aspirations for Canada fall short of an offer is that their respect for the machinery of government is non-existent. They don’t care about agreements, or laws, and act with impunity and malice. Why would any stable country want to allow any American input?

Reason #1 why the USA's 51st state aspirations for Canada fall short of an offer is that their healthcare sucks. Canada's is not the best, but universal care is FAR superior and cheaper for way more of the population. The Americans are asking us to downgrade and are surprised we aren't interested.

Wal-mart, The Home Depot, Starbucks, Gap, McDonalds... If you want access to our market, then you unionize. If you don't - that opens up a lot of real estate for businesses that will. Seems reasonable to me.

If the USA can’t stick to the terms of the USMCA, then we can’t rely on their corporations following our regulations. For the best interests of Canadians, any American-owned corporation operating in Canada should be unionized. That would offer protection for our workers. It's not a tax or a tariff.

For sure. They don't seem to understand their offer lacks any positives at all for Canadians. We have enough rich assholes taking advantage of us as is, why would we open the door to hundreds more? Especially while we watch them destroy all the things that made the USA any good.

It’s too late. Project 2025 was designed to consolidate power and destroy democratic options for repair/reprisal. Couple that with a narcissist with authoritarian ambitions and zero ethics, and you have a double whammy of more or less permanent problems. This is going to be very messy.

There should have been a lineup of Dems ready for day 1. As an EO was signed, it was assigned to a point person to chase & report on publicly: coordinated effort to have a rep with resources for report/respomse. Then a point person they all report to. An opposition cabinet for counter attack.

What's happening in the US is a stark lesson for Canadians. When you vote for a party promoting deregulation, this is what you get: banking, environmental, food and drug regulators... all on the chopping block. How are we supposed to do business now? There's no legal repercussions for bad actors.
