Who knows better than Pierre Poilievre the price an elected representative can pay for repeatedly failing their constituents?

I struggle to understand why people get furious about politicians who cross the floor, and I realized it’s because I don’t really see the distinction between parties a lot of people do. What a party says it stands for changes once it’s in power, so I don’t care much the colour of people’s ties.

For the record, I went to La Cubana instead for a pressed sandwich, tostones, and their incredible raspberry lime rickey.

I like Badiali. I would love it if there could be great businesses like Badiali in every Toronto neighbourhood. At the same time, lining up outside in the cold for pizza is silly. It’s a big city, have something else for lunch. Everything doesn’t have to be a special event.

The construction of the Ontario Line is being overseen by a higher power. (Zoom in…)

I’ve never understood how or why she became a thing. The grift seemed pretty obvious.

It’s a bit of a black mark on the media writ large that Chrystia Freeland didn’t have to answer more tough questions about her devotion to the victims of communism memorial. It so clearly had β€œdoth protest too much” energy.

This thing is inherently a fascist memorial. It should be torn down and handed over to the scrap yard where it belongs.

Was he doing his amazing American accent in the anti-vax video. That’s how you know it’s a high quality project.

I hadn’t considered it. I suppose it comes down to a balance between independence and making voting as clear and simple as possible. Do candidates still run under party banners?

The absolute last thing we should want in our already shaky representative democracy is to ban floor crossing. You think it’s hard for a backbencher to be heard now? Take away their last bit of leverage and see what happens.

Using Constitutionally accepted practices is neither β€œshady” nor β€œundemocratic”. We elect people, not parties, and every attempt to redefine that relationship and ban floor-crossing has failed. And that’s GOOD!

Liam Neeson denies anti-vax views after narrating Covid documentary Taken star lends his voice to a film that questions the legitimacy of vaccines and includes interview with RFK Jr

He may be a crank and/or a moron, but it’s not entirely inconceivable, given his oeuvre of the past 20 years, that he narrated that film for the money. www.theguardian.com/film/2025/de...

The federal Conservatives are the most consistent party in Parliament. They didn’t learn from past failures, and they ain’t gonna start now!!

If the Conservatives lose another MP and give the Liberals a majority, their death spiral is going to be ultra fun to watch. Polievre is done.

I don't recommend anyone buy American Canto, but you should read a few paragraphs. Maybe even a whole page. If you want to experience someone writing with their head buried up their own ass, there are few better examples. Though her ex is making a play for the title.

Going out on a limb, but I imagine it has something to do with:
a) horrible reviews
b) laughably overwrought, high school-level emo prose
c) backlash against the obvious MSM effort to make Nuzzi a thing

I once did a project with Disney that involved the use of their IP. A project they initiated. It was a constant struggle to get access to the IP and then, once we had it, to agree on how it could be used. Now Disney is PAYING OpenAI $1B to allow anyone, anywhere, to do anything.

With apologies to the politicians I like, but there isn't a single politician at any level of government anywhere in Canada who's 1/1,000,000th as cool and RenΓ© LΓ©vesque is in this picture alone.

When is the government of Canada gonna sort out these stupid fucking news-sharing rules? Has the legislation had any tangible benefit? Have we made a bazillion dollars yet? If not, is there a timeline for the bazillion? If not, can we go back to where we were a few years ago?

Yessir! In a column posted the week Olivia Chow took office, I wrote that her two biggest challenges were Toronto's poorly managed budget and its cumbersome, evasive bureaucracy. A good Mayor, I opined, must tackle both challenges simultaneously. Alas... www.readtheline.ca/p/joshua-hin...

As others, especially on this site, have been right to point out, the Rob Ford era, however brief, created a culture of ultimate deference to staff. No one (save perhaps prospective mayoral candidates) thinks we should discount staff's opinion and expertise. But it MUST be purposefully challenged.

Far too much of Olivia Chow's time in office can be counted in "Oh yeah, we'll get right on that" statements about problems which would have been much easier to address if someoneβ€”anyoneβ€”in a position of senior executive leadership had been asking hard questions and demanding better.

Mayor Olivia Chow vows to speed up new $3.5B Finch West LRT after rider complaints Mayor Olivia Chow promised to introduce a motion at council next week proposing better frequency, faster speeds and better priority through intersections for the new Line 6.

Mayor Chow must pay closer attention to the details. Her insistence on being the Macro Mayor sets the table for an empty-suit populist to win the election next year. Someone, preferably at the top, must speak for the people who need this city to function well. www.thestar.com/news/gta/may...
