Some basis exists. 2024 had fewer voters in total, and for both Dems and Gops. But the decline was lower for Gops, higher for Dems. Gops use more anger and fear than Dems, keeping the red voting base riled up. So the assumption is more Gop voters in midterms, fewer Dem voters.

Consider that the entirety of that maldistribution and highly unequal level of capital / wealth ownership is working against all efforts to decrease the rot, it's going to be a very difficult mountain to climb.

About 31% of all USA eligible voters turned out to vote for Rump in 2024. Not "half the country". Not a "mandate". A bit under 1/3rd, at most.
