More Water, More of the Time: Spatial Changes in Flooding Over 83 Years in the Upper Mississippi River Floodplain and Relationships With Streamgage‐Derived Proxies Floodplain inundation regimes have changed since 1940: more area is flooded, deep events are deeper, and long events are longer The magnitude and direction of changing inundation depend on locati...

The Upper Mississippi River has gotten wetter - higher flows, longer high-water periods, and shifting seasonality. How do these changes play out on the floodplain?

We mapped 80+ years of daily floodplain submergence to track spatial trends and climate risks.

Excited to see our paper out in #EcoSphere! We developed and compared 3 ML habitat models of reed canarygrass in floodplain forests. Flooding depths, location, and forest structure were important predictors and resulting maps inform forest management decisions. doi.org/10.1002/ecs2...

The largest US dam-removal effort to date has begun As US dams age, removal is always an optionβ€”and it can be done well.

In my latest for @arstechnica.com, I reported on dam removal as several Klamath dams come down. What are pros and cons of dams? Why are some dams removed? How do you even do that? What about the ecology? Thanks to all the experts that spoke with me βš’οΈπŸ§ͺ
