Idk if there are trans women who need to hear this, but if there are then I figure I better repost.

There are well-meaning people on the left who devote time to reading valuable and profound ideas written by history’s best thinkers. If the ideas are simply swallowed whole and committed to memory, they can harden into inviolable rules rather than a set of principles to apply thoughtfully. Some folks wrap their entire identity in their chosen brand of leftism and don’t notice their critical thinking skills slowly asphyxiating in the coils of their egos. They log on to social media, umbrage locked, loaded and unholstered with the safety off, yelling at strangers, preventing like-minded people from finding common ground. THIS is the kind of behavior we are referring to when we talk about “PurityTests”. We are NOT referring to the views of marginalized groups who are essentially making one simple and valid request: “Don’t sacrifice us as you build coalitions.” It is of utmost importance to fight the fascism resulting from 40+ years of neoliberalism. We must come together in coalitions. However, we need to stop sacrificing people to achieve political outcomes. A defining feature of fascism is the idea that some people are worth more than others. Throughout history, we’ve been willing to exploit groups of people to achieve objectives. THAT is the biggest reason we find ourselves in a mess. If we sacrifice the marginalized, vulnerable or oppressed, we may build a big enough coalition to win the battle before us. “But we’ll take care of them once we win,” you say. No, we won’t, if history is a guide. Once things are comfortable, we’ll forget the promises we made. Oppression is a cancer. You might be able to coax it into remission, but unless completely eradicated, it will be back. In the meantime, the sacrificed group will suffer as the rest of us pat each other on the back for defeating fascism, when all we did was shrink it. Sacrificing groups of people is the surest way to ensure fascism survives. In our quest for equality and freedom, no one can be left behind.

The phrase "purity test" gets thrown around a lot. The phenomenon certainly exists. But it is also overused by people who encounter push back on their views.

Some thoughts.

In addition I am the culmination of studying things -I- love and applying the hard won advice of my friends and teachers that I respect. My art is a craft and a skill that I’ve fought hard for. The fight is meaningful and I would not take it away. The effort and learning is what makes me, me.

The problem is that society treats learning art as pointless unless you are extremely good at it. Even then, it gets discouraged as a waste of time and energy, because it is deemed unprofitable.

That this would kill motivation to learn and make AI art appealing is a consequence of this.

I feel like, as someone with autism and ADHD, this feeling is not limited to us and is a common sentiment

for me, misgendering itself isn’t what hurts me. it’s the struggle of trying to assert who i am and tell people i care about that i’m not who they wanted or expected me to be, and for the image they had of me to reign supreme over the personhood i took years to claim.

I found it nice to watch when I didn’t have anyone to play with, but I struggle to pay attention.
