That’s been my feeling as more and more footage has come out—the BOTW games took up the “quiet, contemplative action game” product space that Metroid occupied and so Prime 4 had to differentiate both in tone (the broader character dialog) and in structure (the OOT throwback design)

it’s bawdy andcrude and it’s got boobs and balls and I think that distracts from the over the top pop culture references and saccharine sentimentality that gets roasted endlessly in other games. Most of the time, it feels like sitting in a discord call with your friends while you all shoot the shit.

I finished dispatch, and I think my takeaway is that it shows why ai voice acting is a dead end, because I don’t think this script and this story with this tone becomes the “fall adventure game hit” and “second coming of Telltale” without really solid, likeable voice acting.
