The Caps just don't have guy like Pastrnak, or one really anywhere close, and we saw the value of that type of star last night.
They're building a sort of "by committee" approach, which I think can work big picture; but boy can it be nice to have a game breaker (or two) at times

The only bigger picture thing I think is worth pulling from last night's game is noting how Boston had their Elite Star take over & contribute majorly on a goal and an assist that made the difference in a low scoring game.

Really don't like how Marty played that. Allowed himself to get washed out by McAvoy

The Caps are trying new things on the PP and it's going to take some time for it all to click.
Best to be patient.
What they were doing last year wasn't working and it was clear it wouldn't be sustainable any longer.

Fantilli would fit in real well here...

I think the only way this works is something in the 4 1sts territory so it is on the table if they're that bold

Patrik Stefan's infamous missed ENG gave the Edmonton Oilers one more point that put them ahead of the Blackhawks in the standings... that led to the Blackhawks winning the lottery and drafting Patrick Kane.

The Caps were also probably ready with a $20.000 AAV for McDavid/Kaprizov/Eichel and it's probably maybe for the best that this happened but also I did kinda want it to happen

I'm not mad that all of the top pending UFAs for next off-season have already re-signed
But I am disappointed

Thanks!
And yeah - I think the attention thing is right but misses what it actually is. Two events on two different days asking 45-60 minutes one day then 90-110 minutes the next is a lot!
Creating a way to consume it that's 100-120 minutes all in one day? That's more like it!

Making F1 TV more affordable would go a very long way.
I have always liked alternate broadcasts. Think a more conversational, "hang" style broadcast with younger voices would help. Also, instead of race build-up for this, have them recap qualy for 5-10 minutes *before* the formation lap.

They played like a league average-ish team, but got timely saves and outscored what was expected. That's fine! But if they're gonig to be a team that more regularly does this, they're going to also need to more often win the shot and chance battle.

They need to win shot share more often - they didn't in the back half of last year - is roughly what it all boils down to.
They were league average in shot and chance generation, tops of the league in Sh%, while then being league average in preventation and Sv%.

The Caps had everything break right for them at the start of last season when they appeared "Very Good" before coming back down to earth as merely a "good" team after.
Models aren't going to like how they won games and it should be instructive as to how they will need to be better this season.

The Caps having a few players rehabbing injuries and maybe needing to start the year on IR allowing for more competition for roster spots into the season is not the worst problems in the world to have.
In fact - could be The Plan (would be if I were in charge and the dudes were on board)

Yeah I guess I'm of the mind that with a strong culture around him he can make it work and I think the current Rangers may offer that with Sullivan as coach, established leaders and vets.
It's definitely not a ringing endorsement still... we'll see.

Yeah that's fair. We'll see how it goes - with a new coach and other established veterans I can see how it's an environment that will work better for him. Could also go worse.
We're also not in the room and know who all the players and staff see as leaders/stepping up.

I've always felt like Miller became a scapegoat there. Not saying anyone was in the right or the wrong, but I can't help but think that stable leadership in Vancouver would have avoided a lot.
2 coaching changes, GM change, traded the Captain... let it all spiral out of control.
16.09.2025 13:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0
I think they're going to be forced to. Don't think you're wrong, but it'll be against their ideals to do so.

I have a feeling you can get him for less. It'll be a very limited market trading for him in all likelihood.
Depending on who is in the sweepstakes, he's a UFA at year's end. You can sign him for free on July 1 & the Caps don't have a desperation for a Cup run the way Dallas did.
