Nothing good is coming out of the US right now

But the good thing is, his time is finite

UK loses measles elimination status Decision made after outbreaks in 2024, when there were nearly 3,000 cases in England and Wales.

This anti-science nonsense has infected the UK
Not content with propping up Reform trying to push our politics to the right, we're seeing a rise in ultra nationalist Christian fundamentalism seeking to limit rights of women, and a massive rise in treatable infection

We're pressured to find use cases for it on the very basis of the sunk cost fallacy

We have already spent (as an estimate) a few hundred million on building out availability for developers, and they want a return on it by hook or by crook

Its great for refactoring already production grade code (with strict supervision), and can estimate decent enough boilerplate code, but actual UX and nuance is lost entirely

You can just "Feel" that something is vibe coded bullshit

I'm a professional developer for a global org, and tasked with running a major platform
AI has been kind of ok at knocking up unit tests, and making my code reviews more difficult

People that talk as if it's the second coming are just marketing, or desperate to validate their sunk costs

(not here so much.. Reddit is the breeding ground for the very worst of it all. This place is baby town frolics in comparison)

Doesn't it just.. I too have posted in innocence and felt the cold finger of doom penetrate up into my insidey parts from the "Fandom"

Their breadth and depth of knowledge is utterly admirable, but they apply it in such a combative manner!

I feel this struggle in my bone marrow πŸ˜†
A big, deep desk just hides sins better

Constantly covered in crap though. It's my space, and it reflects my interests.. so covered in spilled beer and books that I don't find time to read

Bought a 7' monster years back from a small UK supplier
Never looked back.. Carries my 3 27" monitors, PC, PS5, XBox, VR setups etc and still has room for my work laptop and multiple cats

A proper desk setup is amazing
And yeah, this is never leaving this room unless I knock walls down

I honestly feel for people that didn't see this coming a mile off and take steps to protect their online identity
The paper trail is going to condemn a lot of people under this regime

They aren't even a real journalistic outlet anymore.
It's all associate contributors and absolutely no oversight on content quality

So basically a social media site without the two way interaction

The breakdown of why AI can't count the R's in strawberry does a really good job of detailing why AI sucks arseholes

It can't be trusted with anything outside of rote tasks where you don't need to depend on the outcome (for me, that's unit testing to arbitrary code coverage requirements..)

Lonely? Go to the pub, mash in 5 pints and a couple of shots, then talk to the inevitable old guy with a dog

Never fails

(of course said partially in jest. I'm not diminishing the loneliness epidemic.. we need more affordable and accessible 3rd spaces. AI can fuck itself sky high)

Holy shit... this is Simpsons and Family guy levels of prediction
4 months before the event, and pretty much on the nose

I rubbed shoulders with people that knew her quite well, and she is genuinely fucking crackers by all accounts

Possessor wants a word...

Get your point though, the entire point of story telling is deeply rooted in our ability to empathise, which is a core human attribute and steeped in identity

I love things that explore ego and id though
Possessor and Infinity Pool are both great watches

OK I'm tapping out here
Cheers though, it's been fun and made me ask questions and look stuff up which is always welcome

Daddy would you like some SAUSAGES!

Peak cinema

Nowt wrong with that.
Watched M3GAN 2.0 and had an absolutely stellar time with it.. but the general consensus is that its shit

Also going back through a catalogue of 70's/80's schlock horrors
What the fuck did we do to cinematography...

To move anything with a non-zero mass at the speed of light would use 100% of the energy available in the entire universe..
So by definition that BB cannot have been an "infinite" energy event

Let's not descend into nastiness though, I'm enjoying this and furiously reading stuff :)

16.02.2026 03:04 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The same can be applied to the BB. It had an energy potential that by any understanding of physics MUST be limited in some way and not infinite (otherwise it would have used all the energy in all existence just creating it's potential), meaning there is a point that it's effects will come to a halt

16.02.2026 02:59 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

What exists beyond that may well be infinite, but my point remains that it doesn't matter, because we can't measure it!

16.02.2026 02:56 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Ok, I get where you're coming from now
I'm talking about the observability of the universe and our ability to understand it given the limitations of instrumentation, meaning our maximum threshold is the background radiation

16.02.2026 02:54 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

When something is immeasurable, you don't ignore it completely, but you accept it as a known unknown
You can bump up against it with experiments, but you have your venn diagram of possible knowledge dictated by observability

If we want to know more, we have to break that paradox

16.02.2026 02:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Where did the empty space come from?
This is my point.. there is argument that the BB created space for the universe to expand into. But that STILL suggests limits rather than infinite nothingness

Even the cold death theory works with finite space
Just needs to be big enough for everything to stop

16.02.2026 02:48 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

I get that, and it pretty much reinforces what I've said.
I don't think we're opposed that much here :)

Being unable to fully understand the scale of the universe, and if you're of the persuasion ascribing to the notion that expansion could be accelerating, there is a lot we don't and can't know

16.02.2026 02:45 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

We can already observe that the universe is expanding into "something" given that astronomical bodies are getting further away from each other and losing heat (which is the root of my statement re: cold death)

We just can't know what it's expanding in to because we have no access to the data

I very nearly became a Doctor.. the world is a better place because I didn't
I have the brain for it, but not the manner

When I finally pull the rip cord on my current profession, I will probably go into medical tech research, but I can't be exposed to people.

Have you met them?!

I can make it available for you if you like.. Appreciate that you want to credit the artists (and I'm with you on that) but geoblocking is bullshit
