Now that this draft is done, I:
A. Don't know what to do with myself until I'm ready for edits
B. Finally have an accurate handle. Joe has written BOOKS instead of One Book and Three Half-Assed Starts
Tyvm!
30.01.2026 21:07 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0And with a brief wrap-up chapter complete, that's draft 1 of my second book DONE
Here I wrote my first romantic subplot (is it good? time will tell), my first horror novel, all in a 55k manuscript that needs to be fleshed out a bit in edits
Very happy with the work I've done though

The struggle of balancing

Thank you! I'm confident I will, but I'll report back ๐

29.01.2026 04:00 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Wrote the climax today, got about 3200 words in one sitting
I think I've fired every Chekov gun, there were at least 4 in this chapter. But inevitably there'll be one I forgot
That's what the edit is for ๐ซ

Oh I do this. I do this a lot.
Because their grammar doesn't hold a candle to my drama and V I B E S
It was a fun read! Looking forward to Eyrie cause it gives me "warrior cats but with gryphons" energy and what's cooler than that?
And agreed, connecting with indie writers has been the most fun I've had on social media. I even got a writer whose series I enjoyed to do beta swaps lol
Book checkpoint!
Last read: Dust and Lightning by Rebecca Crunden
Current: Eyrie by K. Vale Nagle
Next (and newest) on TBR: Mercy by Ian Haramaki
I scrolled bsky and snap bought a bunch of the stuff I saw so the TBR is all indie rn

A... 3 way tie, somehow

I appreciate all my writing friends here as well. Even if it's just cat pics and jokey jokes, having people with this common interest is nice. And actually talking craft every once in a while

I've really gotten into a groove, writing basically every day. 20k in 27 days is almost 750 per day, which is damn good considering my off/low creativity days.
I still don't have a name for this book, but I dare say it's pretty good. And writing it has helped keep me sane in a tough time.
The word count from my WIP reading "50000 words"
Mostly when I post about writing it's just little jokes, so here's half a second of me being serious.
I've been out of work since before Christmas. I've got good prospects but no offers yet. And in the time I haven't been working, I've been writing.
I've put down 20,000 words since the new year ๐
Google Doc text reading "she and Millie had whiled the day away" with spellcheck trying to change it to "she and Millie had spent the day away"
I go to the effort to google this phrase and docs shows up and tells me I should say "spent the day away"
No, docs, that means something else entirely
Working on the ol WIP and realizing today I get to name the undertaker
And fighting the urge to name him Dampe
Decided to use my Sam's membership for once, walked out with a very nice 4-pack of these guys and the sides. Was sold as ribeyes but reddit tells me they're 100% not that
Tasted great either way lol
Can def relate to this
Told my dad he voted for a pedophile over Christmas and he got so mad he went to bed
A plate of steak cooked to medium, sauteed broccoli, and pan-fried hash browns
Last Sunday, made homemade hash browns, gochujang baby broccoli, and reverse-seared sirloins
Have just a bit of steak left over, but it all went pretty quick ๐
Shit why not, link me
24.01.2026 21:28 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0That IS a cool loophole for the mirror scene, bravo
In my complete novel I got away with characters meeting each other for the first time, or just being non-human as an excuse to describe them.
Looking back I... realized the current WIP doesn't actually describe one of the MCs. Oops lol
The worst part is trying to work in the description without hitting the, "Tilda looked in the mirror, considering her average height and build, while her brown locks framed her grey eyes"
It's more of a struggle than people realize ๐
The funniest part of this WIP is how I introduced Millie's two kids (1 and 3 years) in chapter 2 and very intentionally didn't put them in a position to talk or interact with anyone until chapter 19
At which point I had to figure out how tf to write kids

She's such a delightfully oblivious character, she's so smart but has literally negative emotional intelligence, I love her so much ๐ญ
Also I love her fighting style. So many cool unique powers and she says "that's dumb, just be better at attacking and defending and you're invincible" and it WORKS
Tolkien elves I guess? Reserved/slightly full of themselves. Does sick magic but offers absolutely no explanation for how they accomplish anything. Will not answer direct questions about their lore.
But I definitely need to write an acoustic Frieren elf at some point, I love her lmao
Me: "Look I made a WIP playlist, just like you told me to"
Hypothetical agent/publicist: "This is just both of The Last Dinner Party's albums, plus the acoustic versions, with no skips"
"Yes."
Same approach, def didn't want to do the "fantasy races but only the LOTR ones" approach
So there's humans, giants, and glynmael (elves' personalities, but with leather skin and reptile quills)
Current WIP is just humans
One of the shelved is LOTR races, but halflings instead of dwarves (funny)
