It’s an iterative process built on dissatisfaction. I wanted these soldiers, standing at attention to welcome an emissary, to appear almost architectural - like kouros carved from the desert. My first attempts were fine, but applying Loomis head geometry did the trick.

I had a red lead holder from 1993 til a couple years ago when the inner grasping mechanism broke - KOH-I-NOOR changed the machining on the parts in the intervening decades so I was forced to buy a new one - took a while to get used to the fresh knurling

I love when people ask "What font is that?"

This is a big deal to me for a couple reasons - 1. It was an honor to work on Dave Stevens' character. 2. I have know @themightylayman.bsky.social for 20 years and this is the first time I got to do actual work with him. Also: GIANT APE!!

La Mano del Destino Volume 2 - Issue 1

I've always wanted to make a 2-color comic wherein a third color (and range of tints) are created by overlapping the colors - vintage children's books would often use this technique. you would also see this in the flexographic printing of packaging. I'm pretty happy with this experiment.
