And on top of that, we've been sold this bullshit idea of "find what you're good at", of "talent", of some people being "gifted", because it conveniently lets us tell ourselves "well, I'll never be as good as this person because they're gifted and I'm not" so that makes it okay, rather than accept -

It's all about the fast results, it's all about the convenience, it's all about Avoiding The Suck. We want a diet that'll still let us eat pizza or chocolate, we want to Get Fit but we don't want to feel sore after a good workout, we want to be skilled but we don't want to practice.

I hate to agree with a line of thinking that's so prevalent in other, very sinister spheres, but I genuinely think that the quick'n'easy convenience culture that's grown the last few decades has probably irreparrably damaged us and our ability to do anything for ourselves.

They're always looking for the shortcut to quick easy results like the instant-gratification-addled-brained, effort-averse leeches they are
