What’s interesting to me is the presumption that anyone else should care.

Think what you think, feel what you feel, but please don’t pretend that your perspective equals universal truth.

I mean, the place could use a makeover, but god help us with a black/gold color scheme.

Excellent thread.

On this particular point, I don’t trust Lockheed Martin either.

The country’s leading defense firm donated to a fascist ballroom designed to exalt a president who is waging war against Blue America.

The ties of amity are fraying at home as well as abroad.

Vance wins because he’s closer to the middle. For AOC to win, there would have to be a national cultural transformation driven by the left.

I think such a transformation is possible, and should be pursued vigorously, but ultimately I doubt it will materialize by 2028.

Hello, just wanted to note that archaeological photographers used to use hot air balloons 🎈to do survey shots (Side Note: during the Civil War, there was a Union Army Balloon Corps). Anyway! I enjoy the history of hot air balloons and liked this: www.penn.museum/sites/expedi...

I like this piece because it’s about trying to think smarter about politics in a tumultuous era, rather than an ideological brief for either the left or the center.

Extremely interesting to hear in the Ukrainian house that uncrewed ground systems are really making headway in Ukraine.

The large gap between people who watched the Super Bowl/Half-Time Show and those who didn’t is also notable. Apparently, Bad Bunny put on a hell of a show.

James Van Der Beek’s Greatest Trick In a short-lived sitcom, he gamely mocked his role in “Dawson’s Creek”—and found freedom.

In Dawson Leery, James Van Der Beek gave the world an unlikely icon. But the actor’s greatest role, Megan Garber writes, found him questioning it all:

I wonder if it’s easier for non-elites to change their minds about culture and politics because they face less public scrutiny.

I mean, America did vote for all of this a little over a year ago, so I’m not quite ready to proclaim the deep wisdom of the American people.

I know nothing about the technical side of football, but I enjoyed this piece.

A little too much jargon, perhaps, but my overall impression is that the Seahawks won through a combination of strong systems, strong, alternating, individual performances, and occasional athletic brilliance.

Not luck.

I think Tarana Burke is “the left” and she punted on the Biden v. Trump question in 2020.

And I’m not being judgmental.

I didn’t vote for Biden in 2020 on MeToo grounds, but I would have voted for him if I knew that Jan 6th was coming down the pipe.

I was wrong.

The best thing Biden ever said was that if you believe Tara Reade you shouldn’t vote for me. Trump would never say something like that.

I know what I’m talking about. I was unemployed during the first several months of Covid, and benefited from juiced up government benefits. I followed the matter intently, in the press and on Twitter.

Biden got special treatment by both Democrats in particular, and the left in general.

I don’t mean this to be argumentative, because you post a lot of great content, but MeToo ended when Dem’s gave Biden a pass in 2020 that they wouldn’t have given a Republican.

It was the first cultural/political movement that I was deeply invested in, and it ended with left wing hypocrisy.

My problem is that after a year of maga unchained I’m becoming more leftist by the day, even though I was reasonably centrist in 2020.

Defund the police, when ICE is gunning down innocent Americans, and Red/Purple states are sending their National Guards to invade Blue Cities - absolutely!

This feels real, rather than just left wing puffery.

Glad that my cringe call from a year ago has been born out.

I can’t speak to the libertarian movement as a political thing - CATO is cool, but otherwise I’m clueless - but as a philosophical idea, the kind of classical libertarianism that I learned about in high school LD debate is highly appealing nowadays. As is guns, gold and land for progressives.

Excellent piece:

I’m visiting museums in NYC this weekend, and there are plenty of Trump supporters among the wealthy donor class, so this quote from David Zirin stood out to me:

“If the NFL, many of whose owners bankroll Trump, see Bad Bunny as good for business, that’s very bad for the regime.”

I think we do have to admit this is the best effort anyone on the right has put forward since he was announced. It's good storytelling, good arrangement here. 7/10
