Phibsborough's old Pin Mill by the Royal Canal's 6th Lock catching some rare February sunshine the other evening.

I like this piece because it’s about trying to think smarter about politics in a tumultuous era, rather than an ideological brief for either the left or the center.

I think Tarana Burke is “the left” and she punted on the Biden v. Trump question in 2020.

And I’m not being judgmental.

I didn’t vote for Biden in 2020 on MeToo grounds, but I would have voted for him if I knew that Jan 6th was coming down the pipe.

I was wrong.

The best thing Biden ever said was that if you believe Tara Reade you shouldn’t vote for me. Trump would never say something like that.

I know what I’m talking about. I was unemployed during the first several months of Covid, and benefited from juiced up government benefits. I followed the matter intently, in the press and on Twitter.

Biden got special treatment by both Democrats in particular, and the left in general.

I don’t mean this to be argumentative, because you post a lot of great content, but MeToo ended when Dem’s gave Biden a pass in 2020 that they wouldn’t have given a Republican.

It was the first cultural/political movement that I was deeply invested in, and it ended with left wing hypocrisy.

My problem is that after a year of maga unchained I’m becoming more leftist by the day, even though I was reasonably centrist in 2020.

Defund the police, when ICE is gunning down innocent Americans, and Red/Purple states are sending their National Guards to invade Blue Cities - absolutely!

This feels real, rather than just left wing puffery.

Glad that my cringe call from a year ago has been born out.

I can’t speak to the libertarian movement as a political thing - CATO is cool, but otherwise I’m clueless - but as a philosophical idea, the kind of classical libertarianism that I learned about in high school LD debate is highly appealing nowadays. As is guns, gold and land for progressives.

I’m visiting museums in NYC this weekend, and there are plenty of Trump supporters among the wealthy donor class, so this quote from David Zirin stood out to me:

“If the NFL, many of whose owners bankroll Trump, see Bad Bunny as good for business, that’s very bad for the regime.”

I think we do have to admit this is the best effort anyone on the right has put forward since he was announced. It's good storytelling, good arrangement here. 7/10
