There are two types of hard problems:

1. Problems that are hard to solve and remain hard after solving (e.g. particle physics)

2. Problems that are hard to solve but seem utterly obvious after solving (e.g. naming things)

Software development is a whole lot of #2

OpenAI We believe our research will eventually lead to artificial general intelligence, a system that can solve human-level problems. Building safe and beneficial AGI is our mission.

First version of OpenAI website dub.sh/iFgdW5y

"Since our research is free from financial obligations, we can better focus on a positive human impact. We believe AI should be ... broadly and evenly distributed as is possible safely."

Wonder what their 2015 selves would think of today

Well, that's maybe a hint that the next Google might not be Google!

I think you're conflating AI as the product, and the potential for AI to advertise products. I'm just pointing out that there hasn't been an opportunity to capitalise on qualified targets since Google added adwords to search, which was the greatest money printing machine possibly ever?

31.03.2025 12:48 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

No. I'm saying people use AI in a similar way to search – coming with a need, and getting an answer – versus social, where they are checking what's happening with their friends and then are pushed a product they weren't even thinking about. As such, AI users are qualified targets for advertisers.

I drink water everyday without the water compamy having to lace it with fentanyl.

Need is a simpler business model than addiction.

Not sure about this.

Google had a naturally captive audience using search and email. It was social media companies that needed unnatural levels of engagement to a) profile a user and b) show them unsolicited ads.

Like Google, AI chat can do both without addicting a user.

I spent three months living in Saskatchewan when I was 19 and quickly learned how resourceful and resilient Canadians can be.

This is the real deal. I wouldn't bet against them even if they were in a good mood.

For anyone struggling to understand the impact vibe coding IS having on the industry, I will personally buy you a copy of the mythical man month.

In fact I will buy you ten copies. Then you can read it 10x faster.

Human chess is engaging because of our limitations. A flawless game from a machine is not that interesting.

But fiction with profound insights and perspectives. That could be interesting.

Agree with other comments here. Need people reading the feed!

I fear the design of all current social media platforms leads to them eventually having asymmetric influencers/followers, which leads to majority of users getting no engagement, and then leaving – or using it as a read-only feed.
