Nothing. What part of the legal requirement for a Crown Corporation to be financially self supporting is confusing to you?

I agree it should be a service but, legally, it isn't. Until the law is changed, CPC is in a bind.

Lansdowne 2.0 does more of the same on a larger scale, and yet proponents say it will be successful in ways 1.0 has completely failed. Believing the promises of 2.0 can only be based on hope and, as they say, hope is not a strategy.

(Yes, we should do something with Lansdowne. This isn't it.)

But it should die on the financials anyway, and that's without having to dig deep.

Lansdowne 1.0 promised $70 million in return to the city and delivered zero.

Lansdowne 2.0 is promising more than $400 million, and the AG report says that it might deliver zero

Poilievre doesn't have enough votes to pull the trigger. It would need to be almost all the opposition parties. The Liberals need just three opposition votes or, more simply, just three opposition MPs to be absent.

A reminder that all it takes is just three opposition MPs not showing up for the budget vote for the Liberals to pass it. That way they dont have to support the budget and don't have to face another election.

I agree that Canada Post should be a public service, and I am not advocating for the private sector. I am saying it's realistic to believe the private sector will vociferously oppose competition from the government. And it's also safe to say they have no incentive to "suck it up".

30.10.2025 03:31 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

My bet is all the opposition members present will vote against the budget, and that they'll also all make sure they don't have enough members present in the House to defeat the budget.

Competition WITHIN the private sector is good. Generally the private sector is unhappy to compete with an entity they believe has an unfair advantage, like one that regulates the industry and has (essentially) bottomless pockets.

I agree, but that ship has sailed. The question is, what's next... And clarity about the mandate as a public good fir all Canadians or a self supporting business is a fundamental and necessary first step. It can't do both. No one could.

30.10.2025 00:59 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yup. Everyone needs to understand it's an excuse... and not a verybgood one.

So the parts that put the government in competition with the private sector, which the private sector does not love as a matterof principle.

Don't discount the "self sustaining" part. That's required by the law that made them a Crown Corporation. The problem with offering more lucrative goods/services to Canadians is that puts a government owned entity in direct competition with the private sector, & would not be received well by some.

29.10.2025 22:36 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Can't be done. Canada Post has two mandates which directly conflict... be financially self sufficient & deliver mail to every address in Canada. No organization could do both, and the government needs to decide which one they want. Until someone does that, Canada Post will continue to bleed money.

Arguably, the tax burden has trickled down.

In Canada we're calling it "No Tyrants". Our King is fine, since he has no actual power to do anything. That kind of King seems to work very well. The elected/self aggrandizing ones? Not so much.

Take it with a grain of salt. It's my impression. The museum may have been less explicit about it.

I loved Magritte for a long time, but found myself disillusioned after visiting a museum in Brussels. After the surrealism of his early work, and a stint doing advertising, he attempted a couple of different styles. When they were not successful, he returned to surrealism, apparently because it sold

"They (the Liberals) are accountable for over a third of all scandals in Canadian history...".

Not exactly a searing indictment, considering the Liberals have held power for 2/3rds of the time in Canada's history.

Which begs the question once again why everyone on post-apocalyptic/zombie movies aren't all on bicycles. Clearly very effective.

You forgot the key suggestions to...

9. Lobby politicians for better infrastructure, and;

10. Improve driver education, and constrain drivers through infrastructure design

Driving a vehicle comes with an obligation not to injure or kill someone with it, & that shouldn't depend on others' actions

26.09.2025 13:48 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Canada Post is required to do 2 things.

1. Deliver mail to every address in Canada, &

2. Be financially self sustaining.

Until a government decides whether Canada post is a public service or a self supporting company, it can't be fixed, because it can't do both at the same time.

A small quibble about Cabadian built. McCurdy was famous for being the first person to fly an airplane in Canada but the Silver Dart was built in Hammondsport, NY, by a mixed American and Canadian team, and flew there several times before being sent to Baddeck for the first flight in Canada.
