I think like many, many people I find the idea that CBS has just cancelled Colbert out of the blue like this for financial reasons *highly* implausible. He’s the most viewed late night host on TV, and his ratings have been going up.

There are lots of theories going around, and honestly I have *zero* idea if they’re true or not, but it does seem notable that Paramount caved on 60 minutes, gave Trump’s people a settlement for a legal case they could easily win…

… and that the likely reason is they needed the Trump administration’s approval for a merger that would make the higher ups vast amount of money. Removing Colbert, a notable Trump critic, would clearly be in line with Trump’s interests.

if financials were truly a concern, they’d have found ways to reduce production costs (dropping the live band, cutting back the number of shows per week) before they cancelled the show

I've always known, going back to Even Stevphen, that Colbert is immensely talented. That dude is quick with a line. Then I learned he is also brilliant, able to recite whole ass passages from the Bible and classical lit from memory

But from interviews I learned what a good, thoughtful person he is

Still haven't watched Veep, I've watched one or 2 episodes, and I always tell myself I need to give it more than that but so far haven't been able to but it's been a goal for years.

Just watched all 4 seasons, a month ago, after just not for a while, and it's REALLY good!

He also posts heartwarming videos constantly, and says good morning and good night to the group. It seems the whole group knows him and are so nice to him, which sadly I really wasn't expecting. Some faith in humanity was restored. #Wholesome
