Something else not to be missed: this exchange between Sen. King (ME-I) Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence. King asked why the 2025 Annual Threat Assessment did not mention climate change, after doing so for 11 years.
Again and again I hear on social media and read in newspapers that gas replaced coal in the UK.
That's simply not the case.
In 2024:
📉 43% less electricity generation was from gas than in 2000. 📈 Wind + solar increased more than 100x
🚫 Coal is now zero

to me, the most amazing thing is how slow these temperature changes are. the big changes in the paleo record, e.g., 20C over 100 million years, correspond to 0.000002C/decade. humans are warming the climate at 0.2C/decade — 100,000x faster.

The climate system features numerous reinforcing feedback loops that intensify warming. For instance, more frequent heat waves increase the demand for cooling, which in turn drives higher electricity consumption, greater coal usage, and elevated CO2 emissions.
