I thought that Phasma would come back because her "death" in The Last Jedi felt clearly telegraphed as an "or is she" type death, giving Finn a last battle against the Empire. I thought that the series would buck the trend of redemption arcs by showing that Kylo Ren really was rotten to the core.

what frustrated me about TRoS was that you could *see* the makings of a good movie in the first two. there were so many interesting hints. I was convinced that they'd reveal that Poe was Force-sensitive, for example, due to various hints dropped, showing you could be Force-sensitive and not a Jedi.

to me the worst thing about TRoS is the way it almost retroactively ruins the preceding eight movies because you know they're all leading to *this*. at least after the mixed bag that is the prequels you still had the knowledge that the Original Trilogy was good. TRoS is tachyonically bad.

okay but Spec Ops: The Line is actually quite a clever exploration of this because it's an adaptation of Heart of Darkness that uses the grammar of first person shooters to make a point about how these types of games compel people to participate in horrendous acts of simulated violence

I honestly can't tell if the film was like that out of spite or to pander to the worst people on the Internet but either way, it is easily the worst film I've ever paid to see in a cinema.
