I wholesale switched from gmail to @proton.me mail about a year ago and haven't looked back.

If you primarily use a local client (Apple Mail, Thunderbird, eM Client, etc.), Proton Bridge works great. I was skeptical that the Bridge would be seamless, but it really has been.

🧠 New paper alert! Can people infer others’ values not from what they choose, but simply from what comes to mind? Across four studies, we show they canβ€”drawing on an intuitive theory of how options are generated.

We present our new preprint titled "Large Language Model Hacking: Quantifying the Hidden Risks of Using LLMs for Text Annotation".
We quantify LLM hacking risk through systematic replication of 37 diverse computational social science annotation tasks.
For these tasks, we use a combined set of 2,361 realistic hypotheses that researchers might test using these annotations.
Then, we collect 13 million LLM annotations across plausible LLM configurations.
These annotations feed into 1.4 million regressions testing the hypotheses.
For a hypothesis with no true effect (ground truth $p > 0.05$), different LLM configurations yield conflicting conclusions.
Checkmarks indicate correct statistical conclusions matching ground truth; crosses indicate LLM hacking -- incorrect conclusions due to annotation errors.
Across all experiments, LLM hacking occurs in 31-50\% of cases even with highly capable models.
Since minor configuration changes can flip scientific conclusions, from correct to incorrect, LLM hacking can be exploited to present anything as statistically significant.

It’s so surreal seeing prominent right-wing figuresβ€”an influential presidential advisor, the last campaign’s biggest donor, etc.β€”call for violence, the GOP president lie and stoke violence, every Dem officeholder condemn it, and mainstream media treat those as the same, or the Dem reaction as worse.

Anything that doesn't force Texas to play by the same rules as blue states is just going to give the GOP more control in congress, and thus strong incentives against reform. It seems to me like reforms at the federal level are the only hope (or an instrumental state-level solution a la the NPVIC).

@hankgreen.bsky.social I just watched your gerrymandering video. I'm surprised you're advocating for redistricting regulation to be implemented via ballot at the state level. That seems like a sure-fire way to entrench GOP control nationally.
