30.06.2025 16:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Until now. For instance, the cancer scientist Kseniia Petrova, a Russian immigrant who worked at Harvardβs renowned Kirschner Lab, has been in a Louisiana ICE prison for two months now, and is facing deportation to Russia because she allegedly lied to a border control officer about carrying frog embryos for research purposes. Not only is this likely falseβshe told NBC News that she did tell the officers the truthβbut the usual penalty for such a piddling violation is a $500 fine, knocked down to $50 for a first offense. Instead, ICE revoked her J-1 visa and threw her in prison pending a hearing to deport her back to Russia, where she might easily end up in prison or dead for criticizing the Putin regime. Petrova is not just any cancer scientistβshe is perhaps the worldβs top expert on analyzing the images produced by a new cutting-edge, ultra-specialized microscope that is being developed to diagnose cancer cases. Leon Peshkin, Petrovaβs manager, told NBC that the task βrequires a unique set of skills because you have to both be able to work as an embryologist and do applied math, modeling, data analysis and bioinformaticsβall in one package.β Nobody else in the lab could do what she does, he added.

When David Brooks joined the conservative movement in the 1980s, there were two types of people: those who cared earnestly about ideas, and those who wanted only to shock the left. The reactionary fringe has won, Brooks writes.

Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order.
TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

What a cool study and a powerful demonstration that Tuberculosis is largely a disease of poverty. In Brazil a large scale intervention which provided cash monthly to families living in poverty led to profound reductions in TB cases. Up to 50% among the poorest groups.

It is literally the case that NYT and WaPo are drowning out all content about Kash Patel and Pete Hegseth with coverage of Hunter Biden that completely ignores the corruption involved in the Hunter Biden investigation.
