Played Bravely Default for the first time tonight, by way of the HD remaster on Switch 2, and I've got to say, it's fantastic! I should have played it ages ago.

Nintendo Switch 2 / Mario Kart World Target Ball Covers??

Another observation that I haven't seen much discussion about yet: it seems #Switch2 silently fixes performance problems and improves loading speed in Switch 1 games even without a patch. I've captured some comparison footage using #AtelierYumia, a game known for its awful performance on Switch.

One of Welcome Tour's demos presents the joycons as a set of Maracas, and you can change what's inside, between being filled with beads and having a rubber ball inside. HD Rumble 2 provides very precise haptic feedback to make it actually feel like those things are inside. It's bizarre.

It definitely should have been a pack-in game, but I don't regret spending ten bucks on it. It's fine.

I also gave #NintendoSwitch2WelcomeTour a try, and I came away feeling quite impressed with the mouse controls. The joycons work really, really well as mice. Also, HD Rumble 2 is quite an improvement over Switch 1. The minigames in Welcome Tour do a great job of showing off the system's features.

My initial feelings on #MarioKartWorld are much more mixed. It's got to be one of, if not the, best looking and sounding Mario Kart game yet. But, as someone who has played every Mario Kart game before it...I think the game initially feels very poor to play. Maybe I just need to get used to it.

My initial feelings on the Nintendo #Switch2 console are positive. The larger joycons feel much better in the hands, and I love how the Pro Controller's stick doesn't slam against the shell anymore. Downloads are much faster, and seeing TOTK at 60fps is almost surreal.

Ya girl represented! After answering questions about the likes of Panel de Pon, Mr. Resetti, Howard Phillips' declaration about Sega CD's Night Trap, and the Howard & Nester comics, I won and got to move to the front of the line! Tonight was a very fun night.

I figured I'd have a nice shot at it, so I came back for trivia. There were around 25 participants and the questions were wide-ranging, encompassing obscure Nintendo-related knowledge across its entire history (including a question about Hanafuda cards).

Well...

I never managed to get a preorder for one, so I showed up to GameStop today in hopes of getting a #Switch2 console. I did manage to get one, but I was near the back of the line. While checking out they told me there would be trivia an hour before launch, and that the winner would get theirs first.

The Switch does not account for roman numerals when sorting games alphabetically, so Final Fantasies 4, 9, and 5 get sorted as such because IV, IX, and V are alphabetically sorted when roman numerals are not accounted for.

One issue they haven't resolved that I really wish they'd fix is that the system doesn't account for roman numerals when listing games, it's strictly alphabetical. So you end up with silly situations like this one, with FF4, FF9, and FF5 in order because IV, IX, and V are alphabetically sorted.

Before Nintendo Switch system update 20.0.0, this game showed "Played for 5 hours or more". But after the update, it reads "Played for 8 hours or more".

A cool detail about the new Nintendo Switch system update is that games with more than 5 but fewer than 10 hours of gameplay now show the specific hour count of playtime. Before the update this said "Played for 5 hours or more", but now it more specifically shows 8 hours of playtime.

I know this isn't really DF's realm but I would love to see some audio equipment analysis from you / you guys. I'm not sure my budget goes ~this~ high, but figuring out what's worth spending up for and what's overpriced is incredibly difficult if you don't follow the scene.

Heck yeah. I think it'd be awesome if manufacturers opened back up and let folks publish games on those platforms still. If they did a hybrid release strategy, where the game is emulated on the current system, but folks could order physical copies for the older machines, I would be all over that.

I've also long considered doing some sort of content work, like video essays on YouTube for example.

Both ideas do serve to put a little bit of positivity out in the world, however minor it may be.

But is this truly all I can do?

I cannot imagine dooming on social media is going to be very helpful, nor can I imagine one person being able to change the tide at this point.

So is my best role to provide a distraction for people who are scared and hurting right now?

Every day the news gets more depressing. I've voted against this every step of the way but it has never mattered. I don't recognize the America I live in anymore.

I've always biased toward taking action to resolve problems, so I want very badly to do something to help.

But what can I do?

Well, it looks like Switch 2 is going to only have an LCD screen, so this really is a pretty good time to buy a Switch OLED if that kind of thing matters to you. I love it personally, and I plan to keep it around for my original Switch backlog until they release a Switch 2 with OLED.

The Switch 2 looks cool. On one hand I'm glad its announcement might finally shut up the leakers for a little while, but on the other hand its time to brace ourselves for a torrent of awful opinions from people who think they're obligated to share an opinion on everything. #canyoualljustshutupplease
