I'm always encouraging people to photograph black cats against colorful backgrounds but sometimes black backgrounds and low light create cool photos too. Especially if the cat has some white on them. This is Onie in low light (table lamp) looking at a moth on the ceiling.

a white cascade of toothlike barnacles surges toward the camera from the anchor of a completely obscured rock, filling the frame. A darker shelled variety punctuates the lacerating white, with black-and-amber rings, as if tiny oblong planets were birthing themselves amid the torrent

scrawled wet across rock, seaweed the color of sauteed spinach has a spent langour, that oddly conjours up the vision of fainting couches of the tidal pool variety, but with just enough vigor that one can imagine the swirl and energy of these strands come alive in high tides

the matte white and dark gray, almost black, of sand disturbed by the flow of water from the land into the sea, forming a pattern that could almost be a daring wallpaper, the contusions from rivulets forming the vertical shapes of feathers and outstretched hands and folding fans... and yet there is also a disturbing impression of speed, as if these are instead the tracks of some preternatural animal, passing in great numbers

an orgy of purple rough and tumble starfish, thick and self-confident surround with the suffocating embrace of many arms, their orange brethren, at the center, held seemingly comfortable and secure, or perhaps that is a projection.

For something different. Alaska mushrooms! When I moved to AK over 15 years ago one of the first things I became fascinated with were the mushroom. I'm not an expert at naming them (I'm learning), but I have expert skills in laying on my belly to photograph them. Pro tip, wear rain gear.

Shooting the Milky Way and having composed this image, a vehicle emerged from the fog-laden valley below. Initially annoyed, I was to delete this file. But this image has become my favourite from that night's shoot.
