I'd be willing to bet a dollar that the paper didn't even know this had happened until they started catching hell. If they're anything like us, they put almost-zero resources into Twitter because Twitter generates almost-zero engagement.

We’re actually wondering right now whether we should write a story trying to explain Virginia’s rather rigorous standards for reporting missing kids. I fall in the “no, our ability to stop conspiracy theories died a long time ago” camp but I’m not sure I’m right.
