I thought more or less the same thing when this came out. Lots of folks make dumb decisions when they're younger and there are a few folks out there who renounce their far right views. Instead he decided to tell the most implausible lie he could think of

I would like a koi pond but we have too many cats in my neighborhood lol

It's a great series! I usually watch it at some point when we pick up HBO Max during some sale for a few months

The cult of DHH is alive and well I see. Disappointing

This is an excellent article. DHH's toxic firehose of BS is what originally sent me looking for other languages to program in. I would be happily using Rails today if not for his diatribes in the last handful of years. I know no one in the ecosystem is going to miss me but I'm sure I'm not alone.

He really does have a way to construct the worst possible takes. He's like a discount Elon Musk

I was so happy to not really have to hear about him when moving away from Rails but apparently he has a Linux distribution that a lot of people like? DHH gets no love from this guy.

FDOT has infinite budget for this but no money can be found for not making Central Florida the deadliest place to be a pedestrian in the country

I love flying the vision jet in flight sim. I usually find it very forgiving. Not sure how accurate it is, but it is very enjoyable lol

Induction is so good. I'm always annoyed when I cook somewhere else and they have older electric cooktop and it takes forever to heat up. The benefits of gas without giving the whole house bad asthma

This sounds about what I expected. So much of the Rails / Basecamp stuff works under their assumptions and nothing else is given too much thought. Kind of annoying.

The whole world will move on to NoSQL because SQL is so dated! All art will be through NFTs! Blockchain everything!

Yeah I don't use it much, and I generally wouldn't know it's there, when I'm not using it. Really pleased with Zed overall. I forget how slow vscode can be at times until I use Zed for a while

It's all good, me too. It's a lot harder than I initially thought it'd be lol. It's just there's a ton of tutorials for Python and a lot less for Elixir (in that arena).

17.05.2025 20:11 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

(would like to clarify that I love elixir and would greatly prefer to use it compared to most other languages where possible)

As someone who was starting from scratch, I wasn't really able to put together an ML model that was remotely accurate in Elixir, while I was able to do so in Python. This is coming from knowing nothing about machine learning models. It might be easier if you already know the fundamentals?

Kagi is great. I recently tried it out and the results seem to be higher quality than Google. Loving the lack of ads also

I think my late night coding days might be behind me. The last few times I stayed up late working on some personal projects I ended up having to rewrite everything the next time I worked on them πŸ™ƒ

15.04.2025 13:54 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Agreed on Elixir; anything that I build that is web based these days I'm usually primarily looking at Elixir (or even long running API clients). Command line tools or stuff that isn't long running is primarily Go for me. I'd like to learn rust but it hasn't clicked yet.

08.04.2025 15:44 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

My use case for go is mostly smallish tools where I want performance and where something like Elixir isn't the best fit (system tools that need fast startup time and the like). It's very nice to cross compile to some other arch and not have to make assumptions about deps on the target machine!

Rewriting code quickly and using AI from a language you don't understand is such a phenomenally bad idea that I don't even know where to start lol. To say nothing of how important it is that it's right
