People spend way time worrying about whether students are getting too many A's and not enough time considering the possibility that people who busted ass so hard that they got into a place like that might be the kind to be high achieving

Too many FACULTY think grading is about breaking people, too

Whatโ€™s draining tax dollars isnโ€™t SNAP, itโ€™s corporate welfare and billionaire tax breaks.

FACT: Even people working two jobs still need SNAP.

Whereโ€™s the outrage about that?!

I lay her death at the feet of all the people hounding trans women athletes like her, you fucking monsters

It is great that small businesses and local organizations are stepping up to fill gaps in food access while SNAP is frozen, but every story masks a systemic and humiliating failure of the US Government to support its most vulnerable citizens. The GoFundMe-ification of social services makes me sick.

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.

The people who need help are not the problem.

Itโ€™s corporate greed. Itโ€™s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

A load-bearing assumption required by MAGA's entire ideological framework is that those who are unable to afford the basic necessities of life (whether employed or not) deserve to die.

Did you know?

About 4.5 million SNAP recipients are babies and toddlers under age 5.

About 11.1 million SNAP recipients are kids aged 5 to 17 years, who need food for healthy growth, learning, & development.

The federal government has the capacity to continue funding SNAP during a shutdown.

20% of the people on SNAP are 60 and older. 40% are children under the age of 18. 40% are adults ages 18-59. Additionally, 10% of those on SNAP have a disability, which means they cannot work. AND the majority of those who can work are working.

Years ago when I was on SNAP (we called it Link) I would tutor my hairdresser's son in exchange for getting my hair done. I got my teeth cleaned at a student clinic for $10 IIRC and my nails done by a friend in the cosmetology program who always needed people to practice on. Community 101

Families are paying over $200 more a month this year compared to last year.

Meanwhile, Republicans are increasing your healthcare costs and pausing SNAP benefits.

Democrats are coming back this week to fight for healthcare, lower costs, and an end to the Republican shutdown.

โ€œJust go to a food bank, a church or a charityโ€

For every meal the food bank provides, the SNAP program provides 9.

Even if donations are rapidly scaled up, they wonโ€™t be able to meet the needs of 42 million Americans who are about to go hungry.

Itโ€™s not sustainable.

You know who the real freeloaders in this country are? Not people who rely on SNAP, but corporations whose business model depends on wages so low that taxpayers have to feed their workers.

SNAP isn't about "people who don't work." It's about people who don't get paid enough to live.

Of the 40 or so million people who rely on food stamps:

* Two-thirds are children, seniors, or disabled

* Most working-age adults who receive SNAP are employedโ€”but in jobs that pay poverty wages

SNAP is not the reason your taxes are high.

SNAP recipients donโ€™t need to โ€œjust go get a jobโ€.

Most of them work. The rest are disabled, elderly, children or caregivers.

People need & deserve assistance

Your taxes fund wars and tax cuts for the ultra rich

Be mad about that

The thing is journalists should constantly be thinking deeply and carefully about their word choices, especially dehumanizing language, and questioning why they use what they use and who benefits from it. The arrogance from the reporter is frankly embarrassing.
